Patton didn’t read as Logan drove them back to their houses, still exhausted from the fight. He felt heavier than normal, like he had weights on his feet, and he figured that it was due to how much he’d flown earlier. Plus he’d been able to make another person fly, something he didn’t know he could do. Patton bounced his foot anxiously as he realized he suddenly had no idea what was going on with his body.

“Patton, are you alright?” Logan asked. “I can feel how anxious you are from here.”

“I’m just thinking.”

“Would you like to share your thoughts? That could make you feel better.”

“Do you think that was the creature that Roman mentioned the Dragon Witch creating? Like, the one she asked them to make for her?”

“Most likely.”

“It could speak.”

“Yes.”

“Do you think these monsters had a conscious?”

“No. I don’t.”

Patton looked at him. “You don’t?”

“You can create a living thing. I am not aware of how it was done, but creating something that breathes is not the same as creating a sentient life.”

“You think so?” Patton asked, his guilt eating him.

“Yes.”

“How are you doing, Lo?”

“Not well, admittedly.”

“What’s up?”

“The sky, but I fail to see the relevance.”

Patton smiled. “What’s making you not feel good?”

“Ah. I believe that my powers are simply tired, but I cannot silence the voices like I have been able to.”

Patton looked at him. “So can you hear my thoughts?”

“Barely. I can hear too many voices at the moment to completely distinguish yours.”

Patton grazed his fingers over Logan’s free hand, which was resting on the gearshift. Logan’s shoulders visibly relaxed. “Any better?”

“Yes.” Logan sighed, and he reached his fingers until they were interlaced with Patton’s. “Thank you.”

“Sure. Holding your hand makes me feel better too.” Patton admitted, resting his head against the headrest and closing his eyes. “Talk to me?”

“About what?”

“Why do you want to be a teacher?”

“I have always enjoyed learning, and like the idea of being able to impart that knowledge to others. I want to help them find their passions. I also know how some teachers have felt about me, and I want to be a teacher that kids can see themselves in. I want to give them something I do not have. An example to believe in.” Logan said.

“What subject?”

“Science, most likely. However I do also enjoy psychology.”

“What science?”

“Biology or Physical Science, most likely.” Logan continued to share his love of the subject, and Patton hung on every word. He kept his eyes closed, listening to the way Logan’s voice sounded as he relaxed into Turbo’s seat. He really enjoyed just listening to Logan, and hearing how excited he got at learning how the world worked.

“You have the best voice.”

“I do?”

Patton chuckled, and lifted his head to look at Logan as they turned onto Patton’s street. “You really do. It makes me happy.” He gave Logan’s hand a squeeze.
