Remus looked away from his conversation with Roman. He’d been worried for his brother, after he’d shown up in his “special dinners” suit. His brother hadn’t really given him any straight answers, but Remus had been interrupted before he could really get going.

“You’re sure?” Janus asked, walking over.

“Yes.” Logan nodded.

“Great, it’s storytime.” Remus grinned, jumping over the back of the couch and sitting down roughly.

“Gentle.” Roman fussed from behind him, before doing the same thing. They sat on opposite ends of the couch, and Janus moved over to the chair by Remus, comfortably contorting himself into a pretzel before sighing contentedly. Patton took the beanbag on Roman’s side, and Virgil on the remaining chair, curling up into a ball with his knees against his chest.

“I suppose I can read it.” Logan said, before clearing his throat. “Dear future rangers, this-” Logan frowned. “This is not formatted correctly, allow me to restart.”

“Nope.” Remus said, snatching the book from Logan and turning it to face him. The writing was clean, but old. The pages smelled like paper that had coffee poured on it at one point, and there were blotches on the page from time. Remus began to read.

Dear Future Rangers, I hope this finds you well. I am Ka-ari, a warrior from the proud Kemet.

“What does that mean?” Patton asked, looking over at Logan and Virgil.

“Oftentimes, Egypt was called ‘Kamet’, it means the ‘Black Land’, because of the soil.”

“Great, we are still getting a history lesson.” Remus complained. “Anyways…”

I write this from a language only those with the bands of power, or morphers as my friends and I call them, may understand. I wanted to share the story of how we received these gifts.

My sister, Eopei, and I were out with each other, along with her husband, Apis, walking along the Ar when we had come upon a place in the sands where the waters of Hapi refused to reach, pulling back in an unnatural motion. My sister was ever curious, and got down onto her knees to find the cause. Only after a moment of waiting, did she raise her hand to Ra with a shining band in her grasp. It glowed a yellow as bright as Ra’s boat, and she put it on to proudly show it off. Apis went to the sand next, reaching down and pulling up another bracelet that glittered a blue deeper than any water or jewel I’d ever seen. I myself then reached to grab into the sand, and felt a snap of the light around my wrist. I lifted my hand to see a brilliant green staring into me. After, we felt a jolt of energy, and in my mind, I was offered a chance to help my kingdom. I accepted, and was handed a mace.

However, I believe you may know most of this already. The other three rangers were soon found, one of whom was a king’s daughter. We then found our role fighting away monsters from Set’s army as they began to attack our people. We know nothing of why the gods gave us these morphers, or why they gave us the powers that came soon after. We only know that we were given these to fight, and since those gifts were handed to us 2 abeds past, we can only assume that more is to come. However, we plan to keep the mantle strong, and prevent Set from harming our kingdom or its people.

I pray to the gods that you are also able to fight as we are.

Ka-ari.

“And that’s it for the first entry.” Remus said, flipping the page.

“So many questions.” Janus said, frustrated.

“Really? I mean, it answered absolutely nothing. It just showed that this wasn’t the first time.” Remus scoffed.
