We back at it again in the floating black market.
It had been 2 months since Alpheus had last seen the Nektons, there was nothing about them in the news they hadn't taken on any projects from the woa nothing but radio silence. Most people on the floating market let out a collective sigh of relief. No more Nektons, no more trouble. But Alpheus knew better. The Nektons were never this quiet, they were up to something.
It was a rather hectic day on the floating market, it was only noon but four fights had broken out, two fires had been started and three people had tried to steal from them, granted one of them was Alana and she was stealing a bagel but Alpheus thought it still counted. Speaking of Alana she was currently in a fist fight with another customer trying to steal from them. Bringing the grand total of thevies to four and fights to five. Alpheus was watching the fight from the side lines wondering how much longer it would take for her to get their maps back when he heard someone coming up the gang plank.
"William Nekton. How can I help you."
"...are you going to stop them?"
"Theives will be dealt with by security, it says so on the sign."
Sure enough there was a new sign posted right next to the no dogs no police and no Nektons sign.
"You still have that huh?"
"Yep, so better get to the point."
William look at their security slightly unnerved.
"We need you to do some translations for us."
"Is that it?"
The theif had finally dropped the maps and ran, Alana picked the maps up and walked over to Alpheus.
"Did I hear you say Nekton?"
"It's fine. He's not on the boat, yet."
Will took a step back.
"Can you do the translations or not?"
"I'll see, come back in three hours, we'll be charging you triple."
"Triple? Seriously."
"Yes, triple. You got a problem with that Nekton?"
Will shook his head and left.
"Thanks for getting the maps back, I've got get back to work, help yourself to whatever's in the kitchen."
Alpheus sat down with the ruins. They were definitely ancient Lumurian, they looked to be around eight thousand years old. It was in a dialect used near the west coast of Africa. It took him close to an hour to get through it. Alana was sat on the table beside him she was glaring at someone standing at the other end of the pier. Alpheus couldn't make out who it was from this distance he was fairly sure Alana couldn't tell either she tended to just glare at anyone and everyone.
"Are you alright sis?"
"Fine, why."
"You're glaring at that guy."
"I don't like him."
"Can you even see who he is from this far away?"
"I don't like his vibes."
"Can you even feel vibes from this far way?"
"Shut up."
Dolos finally dragged himself up from under the deck, he looked half asleep. Alana waved from her spot on the desk.
"Ah raccoon you're back."
"That's not my name."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. You should take a nap, you look exhausted."
"I'm fin-"
"Bed young lady now. There's pajamas next to the sofa for you and blankets in the cupboard down the hall."
Alana looked at Alpheus hoping to get some support.
"I'll make you hot chocolate!"
Alpheus smiled as Alana scowled. She reluctantly made her way into the living room.
When William came back two hours later Dolos was not pleased to see him.
"William, whatever do we owe the pleasure."
"I'm here to pick up some translations, your son said he'd do them for me."
"Alpheus?"
"There here, I did what I could but its a very old language."
"Thank you, here."
Dolos took the money and immediately escorted William off his ship.
"So, what was our dear friend will looking at?"
Alpheus shrugged and handed his dad the translations.
"Not entirely sure, this is all I could translate. You're more than welcome to have a go at it."
Alpheus said handing the tablet to his father before turning to go below deck. Dolos stared at the text. The Nektons had been asking him to translate more and more of these types of texts. Whatever the Nektons were up too Dolos was sure of one thing. There was money to be made.
