Alpheus isn't gonna let Protues hurt his new family. Enjoy!
When Protues entered the Nektons submarine he had everything planned out. What he would say where he would take the Nektons he even had an escape plan. He thought he was ready for anything, but nothing could have prepared him for the havoc the Nektons cat would cause.
The second he entered he swore he'd met that cat before, he had a bad feeling. For the next six hours 'Coffee' did everything in his power to stop Protues' plan. Firstly when Protues came on board the devilish cat clawed at his robes. Protues had a hard time keeping his anger in check as he pulled his robe away over and over again.
Then when the Nektons finally agreed to go to Lumuria's needle the cat somehow got into the helm controls and chewed through a number of wires. He got away with it by being cute. Protues was sure he recognised that smirk but he just wasn't sure where from. From that moment onwards it was Chaos. The cat seemed to reck every system, navigation went off line several times. Protues was very tempted to just lock the cat in a storage closet and be done with it, but the Nektons were no longer letting him out of their sight.
When they got closer to Lumuria's needle Alpheus started sticking closer to Ant. He figured what ever Protues had planned it would have something to do with Ant. When Protues climbed into the rover beside Ant Alpheus snuck into the back. He stayed quiet as Protues stole the rover and drove them out of the moon pool. Then right before they surfaced he attacked.
"AAHH DAMN CAT!!"
Protues threw him, he hit the glass then landed on his feet beside Ant.
"HEY! Leave Coffee alone!"
Alpheus shook his head and hissed at Protues. When they got to the surface it was freezing. Alpheus stayed close to Ant, he didn't want Protues anywhere near him.
"Take this."
"That's ours!"
"Not anymore. Take this to."
"But that's..."
Protues smiled.
"The Cronical tells us that the one will join the pieces of the Ephemycron, if you can do that Antaeus I will help your family."
"There's supposed to be three."
"Two should be enough to prove if you're genuine. or not."
"If I do this, you'll help my family."
"Of course."
Ant struggled to fit the pieces together, they eventually fit but as he went to hand it over they fell apart.
"Ugh that's it, that's the best you can do? Nereus was wrong about you you're just an annoying child."
That's when Ant spotted the boat they'd rescued earlier. He ran towards it with Coffee close behind.
"HEY!" Protues shouted.
"HELP THIS GUY BELIEVES IN DESTINYS
AND WEARS ROBES AS CASUAL CLOTHES!!"
"Your new friend is very loud Protues."
Ant felt his heart sink, he realised he wouldn't be getting any help from them.
When Alpheus saw the helicopter he was relieved he could finally get away from his crazy ex mentor. As Protues fled in his friends boat taking both Ephemycron pieces with him, Alpheus couldn't help but feel relieved. He hoped that Glaucus and Tethys would catch up to Protues in the helicopter but something told him he had a plan.
Nereus was disappointed to hear the Protues had escaped. There was a life boat missing Glaucus assumed that's how he escaped. They had searched for Protues but couldn't find him anywhere. Alpheus was annoyed, he jumped down off of the table he had been sitting on and made his way into the kitchen. He was surprised when Nereus joined him.
"Ahh, hello Coffee."
"Mew."
"You know, you remind me of a kid I met a few years ago. His name was Alpheus."
"MEW!!"
Nereus raised an eye at him.
"Would you like to hear more about him? I could tell you about the time he got stuck on top of a book shelf, god it took us hours to get him down."
Nereus laughed and Alpheus groaned. Nereus went on to tell him every embarrassing story he could think of about his old apprentice. Alpheus would have scratched his face off but it was nice to know that someone remembered him.
"Haha, Protues couldn't get the pink dye out of his beard for weeks."
Alpheus smiled at the memory, he remembered Glaucus and Tethys laughing as Alpheus ducked around a pillar trying to avoid Protues' wrath.
"And then there's the time he glued my desk to the ceiling, to this day I have no idea how he done it."
"How who did what?"
"Oh hello Antaeus, I was just telling Coffee here about my old apprentice."
"You have an apprentice?"
"Yes, his name was Alpheus, bright young man, altho he seemed to spend most of his time making up new ways to annoy Protues."
"Ooohh I like him! When can we meet him?"
"I'm afraid thats not possible Antaeus. Alpheus disappeared a few years ago. I haven't heard from him since."
"Well maybe we can help you look for him!"
"I appreciate the offer Ant, but I'm pretty sure Alpheus doesn't want to be found."
'Of course I want to be found!!'
Alpheus thought. He wanted to be able to yell at the Nektons for being idiots.
"Well we can still keep an eye out for him! Maybe he's looking for Lumuria too."
"Maybe. Well I'd better be getting back to the Guardians."
Nereus stood up and walked out. Alpheus sighed, he really wished Nereus would hurry up and realise it was him.
I think Alpheus probably helped Protues escaped from the ice breaker and without him Protues had to find another way out.
Nereus: you know you remind me of someone.
Alpheus : Yeeeessss
Nereus: he's name was Alpheus.
Alpheus: YEEESSSSS
Nereus: Huh... would you like to hear about him.
Alpheus: DAMMIT!!
At this point Alpheus is gonna have to use the Ephemycron before they realise it him. And even then Nereus is just gonna be like 'Interesting never thought a cat could use the Ephemycron.'
