The Deep Oneshots Part 2

Ant-napped au

Alpheus meets the rest of the Nektons, he's not impressed.

As promised the next day Ant was subjected to Protues' training. He'd start early in the morning. Or what Ant assumed was morning. Unlike the Aronnax Alpheus never bothered to change the time when they past into new time zones, and he was often times in deeper waters than the Aronnax, making it much harder to tell if it was dark or if they were just deep in the ocea. They'd begin with classes on Lumurian language. It was one of the classes Ant tried to pay attention to. But Protues was boring.

He'd speak for hours about one ruin. Where it first appeared in the kingdom. If it came from outside Lumuria originally he'd talked about how it got there, and how it spread into common use. If it came from within the kingdom he'd talk about how it changed and evolved over the centuries. Ant would be lucky if he got to learn the meaning of two new symbols a day. He'd do anything to just get Protues to speed it along.

When Protues was finally done with Lumurian language class he'd allow Ant to get some breakfast. After witch he'd returned to class room after to study Lumurian history. Once again Ant tried really hard to listen, but no mater how hard he try he just couldn't focus for more than a few minutes. It irritated Protues to no end.

When Protues eventually gave up he'd end the day with physical education. Ant would run laps of the submarine until he was exhausted. Ant was sure that Protues wanted to push him further, much further. But something was stopping him. Ant wasn't sure what, but he desperately wanted to find out.

When Protues was done Ant would be given some free time. He'd almost always stager his way into the kitchen and rummage through the freezers for something to eat that was easy to cook. Sometimes if he was really lucky and Alpheus was in a good mood there would be something waiting for him. After that he'd return to his room and almost immediately collapse into bed. Only to start the ordeal over again the next day.

This routine continued for a little over two weeks. There was very little change to this routine. The only significant thing that happened was when Protues thought it was a good idea to try swimming instead of running for a change. He was giving a comm and a rebreather, shown a path to follow and allowed to leave through the air lock. Ant dumped the comm they were using to track him almost immediately, making a break for freedom.

When he made he way to the surface he found himself in the middle of nowhere. He couldn't see any land on the horizon or any boats in the distance. He was debating on what direction to swim when a voice spoke up behind him.

"Wow. Protues is dumber than I thought."

Ant slowly turned to find Alpheus, he looked very amused.

"Ooooo, he- hey Alpheus. Don't mind me I'm just Uh..."

"Escaping?"

".....noooooo."

"Mmhh. So if you're not escaping where's your comm?"

"Oh- well there was this giant Uh- shark and- and it attacked me and I had to give up my comm in order to escape."

"Uh huh, well let's go get you a replacement shall we?"

Ant let out a dramatic sigh.

"Fine.... but you'll have to catch me!!"

Ant turned and swam as fast as he could. Alpheus watched for a moment before following after him with his jets.

"Oh Dammit!!"

Ant cursed as Alpheus pulled along side him.

"Well. That escape attempt lasted for all of five minutes. Now let's get you back to the singer."

Alpheus grabbed the back of his wetsuit and proceeded to drag Ant back. Ant yelled and cursed at him but wasn't able to do much.

Protues was not pleased when they got back. Ant was sure Protues was going to actually kill him. But Alpheus said something about not having the time and instead he was sent to his room.

He had been locked in his room for the better part of an hour now. With nothing to do but stare at the ceiling.  He had no way to get out of his room. The door was locked and he had no way to pull off the panel next to it. Aria had full control of the vents he'd learned that after spending the better part of 10 minutes crawling around in circles always ending up back in his room. It was getting tiring.

He was things of a way to get a screw driver. Or some form of tool anything to aid his escape when he heard a loud bang coming from his window.

He jumped turning his head to the noise. It was Fontaine!

Ant ran to the window, practically jumping for joy.

"Fontaine!! I'm so happy to see you!! Are mum and dad with you?"

Fontaine seemed to respond but Ant couldn't hear a word she was saying.

"I can't hear you! Theirs scramblers."

Fontaine frowned before gesturing towards his door.

Ant shook his head

"No I can't get out. But I'm so glad you're ok! I didn't think you'd escape."

Fontaine gestured to her face, carefully mouthing out 'rebreather'.

"Rebreather? Yes! Yes I have one!! Alpheus didn't take it back!!"

Ant quickly scooped it off the ground holding it up proudly to his sister. She nodded her head and gestured for him to stand back. As soon as he did do Fontaine began to try break the window open. Unfortunately all the noise did was attract attention.

"Antaeus what the f*ck is that noise!"

Alpheus yelled as he walked in the room. Ant smiled sheepishly and tried his best to block his view of the window.

"Oh nothing. Just rearranging my room."

Another loud bang rang out Alpheus glanced to the window stopping Fontaine.

"Oh. Well theses a surprise."

Alpheus quipped.

"It seems we have company."

Ant glared up at him, behind him his sister joined in.

"Well then, it would be rude not to invite her in."

Ant felt dread pool in his stomach.

This could only end badly.

Alpheus and Fontaine are going to absolutely despite eachother. Fontaine is hurling insult after insult while Ant is standing their like an npc. Desperately wanting to join in but at the same time wanting to stay sorta on Alpheus' good side.... until he fucks that up
