The Deep Oneshots Part 2

Here we go again

Alpheus had been on the Aronnax for almost an hour now and was slowly going insane. Ant had been dragging him round the sub, showing off, while Fontaine was getting his room ready. He really didn't like the way they were acting. He wasn't staying. Protues would come get him soon. He was sure of it. But as the hours dragged on, he realised this was a test! Protues wanted to see him escape on his own. And he wouldn't let him down.

It was close to midnight. The Nektons had fallen asleep ages ago. It was time to put his plan into action. They had locked his bedroom door, but luckily he could push his desk against the wall and crawl into the vent.

It didn't take him long to get completely lost. Everything in the vents looked exactly the same and by the time he'd found his way to a hallway he was completely lost. He kept walking around poking his head into random rooms hoping to find the moon pool or the air locks. Instead his stumbled into the kitchen. Where Fontaine was sat eating cereal.

The two stared at eachother for a few seconds before Alpheus bolted.

Fontaine stared at the door where Alpheus was before picking up her communicator.

"Hey Ant?"

"Fontaine it's the middle of the night what do you want."

"Just thought you'd want to know your kid broke out of his room."

"What?!"

"Yeah, he's heading your way."

Ant jumped out of bed and ran out the door. Just in time for Alpheus to crash into him. Alpheus stumbled back and fell to the floor.

"Shoot! Alpheus are you ok?"

Alpheus glared at him.

"Out of my way Nekton!!"

He yelled before scrambling to his feet and running off again.

"Hey! Wait! .... moon pools that way....."

Ant sighed and started walking after him. It wasn't long before he caught up, Alpheus had wondered into one of the storage rooms and had gotten side tracked by some of the artifacts they were keeping there.

"Kid it is way past your bedtime."

"You're not my dad!! Stop acting like it!!"

Alpheus threw a book at him. Ant caught it and set it back down before walking towards him.

"Right, come on back to bed."

Ant scooped him up and started walking back towards his room. Alpheus protested extremely loudly. He was kicking and screaming but it hardly made a difference.

Ant eventually got him back to his room. He'd stopped kicking and screaming a while ago. Ant was just glad he hadn't woken up his mum and dad. Ant looked at the desk pushed against the wall and sighed.

"Right, should have known."

Ant set him down on the bed before pulling the desk back to where it was. He didn't have any way to close off the vent, he'd just have to hope the kid was to tired to try it again. He turned around to talk to him only to find the room empty.

"God dammit."

By the time Ant got to the moonpool he was long gone.

Alpheus dragged himself back to Aria only to be faced with and unimpressed Protues.

"I'm back."

"I can see that, try to be quicker next time."

"Right... I can do that!"

"Good, let's go, we have much to do."

Alpheus ran to catch up with Protues as he walked down the hall.

Three hours later he was finally allowed to go back to his room. He spent the next thirty minutes coming up with a plan for the next time he met the Nekton, determined to not be kidnapped again and to prove himself to be a worthy nemesis. He was about half way through when he fell asleep.

Next up Ant and Maddy rivalry. In future chapters Maddy will be teaching Alpheus how to swear and play poker. Ant will not approve.
