Day 6 10/28: Rainy Day

Keith woke up and frowned listening intently. He could hear the drop, drop, drop, and rumbling of thunder. It was STILL raining. He had hoped when he went to bed last night that a miracle would happen, and it would stop by now. Shit! He threw off the covers and walked over to his window, pulling up the blinds. The sky was a dark grey and the clouds were looking...angry.

There is no way he could leave now. He was on this base for emergency services and needed to be available. That was duty. But he was looking forward to this date. It was their 2nd anniversary. He had plans. He even asked for help. He was going to do a romantic picnic with food courtesy of Hunk. He was going all out. Her favorite candy. Her favorite drinks. He even splurged on some champagne. He made these plans weeks ago. Damnit.

He sat back down on his bed, depressed. His birthday a few years ago was the catalyst. His ambivalence faded when faced with his greatest desire. After realizing what he wanted, he put all his faith in love. He finally accepted that his feelings were not just going to go away. He took a chance. And it was worth it. Pushing his fear aside. Taking the risk. Because Katie was his. He had her laughs, her jokes, her hugs. Her love.

And today was supposed to be a homage to their first real date. He had plans which are now crap. No picnic. No pictures. No engagement. Keith fell backward. Now what?

Hours later, Katie arrived despite his protests. "Keith, seriously, I don't care! I have the day off and I'm here. I don't care if we can't go anywhere. Honestly, I'm due for a do-nothing day! And besides, I'm with you, what more could I want?"

Keith couldn't deny her. Ever. Chuckling, he thought about the one time he did and then he ended up regretting his behavior. And honestly, he was happy she was here. It's just his plans that made him regretful. But no matter. She was here. And he had food and wine. Privacy. He could make this work for a date. He'll do the proposal another time. No worries it's like Katie knew what he wanted to do.

They'd spend time together, chill and he'd have to figure out a plan B. Hell, Shiro always told him to have more than one option.

Day 7 10/29 Falling for you

Katie had no clue what was up with Keith. He seemed...off. Keith was usually so upfront with his emotions. From the moment they started dating, she knew where she stood. He was upfront. He was honest. And she was as well.

But these last few days it felt like he was hiding something. Something big.

After much thought and self-contemplation, she figured out the puzzle.

He was done. But he did not know how to break it to her. This was her main concern when they started this whole...thing. It's been a wonderful 2 years. She loved him. But she wouldn't trap him or hold him captive. She wanted him to be happy.

Even if it wasn't with her. Katie knew that was what she believed. That was true. But there reality of not having Keith in her life. Not having his presence, his trust, his love...was God, this was why she resisted for so long. She knew she loved him. But it was hopeless. Safe. No danger.

But then, after his birthday, he insisted. He pursued. And she was thankful. She was happy. He finally saw what she saw...ages ago. But no more.
