The room was a soft mess of tangled blankets and scattered pillows, half-open curtains letting in the first gentle rays of sunlight. Outside, the distant sound of birds chirping added a peaceful backdrop to the morning — a peace that was promptly shattered by the blaring alarm clock going off for the third time.

A hand shot out from the mountain of blankets and pillows, slapping the snooze button with practised accuracy. Tzuyu groaned dramatically, face still buried in the pillow. "Just five more minutes, my love," she mumbled, already halfway back to sleep.

The bedroom door creaked open and Sana walked in with the grace and composure of someone who had already showered, gotten dressed and was fully prepared to take on the day. She stood at the foot of the bed, arms crossed and eyes narrowed with barely concealed exasperation.

"Tzuyu. Get up."

The older took a slow breath, trying not to let her irritation boil over. She knew mornings with the younger were always like this — a battle of wills she rarely won. However, as much as it frustrated her, there was a tiny part of her that found the whole thing endearing. Not that she'd admit it because her wife would tease her to death.

Tzuyu peeked one eye out from under the blanket and whined like a 5-year-old, "But whyyyy?"

"Because," the older said, voice full of that very specific brand of sternness she reserved just for mornings, "You're an adult with responsibilities."

"Gross," Tzuyu muttered, burrowing deeper into the covers, "I reject adulthood. I'm a caterpillar in a cocoon. I live here now."

Sana pinched the bridge of her nose. She was already picturing the long day ahead, the endless to-do list — breakfast, errands, a mountain of work — and here Tzuyu was, treating the morning like some kind of comedy routine. And yet, despite her frustration, Sana couldn't help but notice the way the younger's tousled hair and sleepy pout made her look impossibly soft.

Focus, Sana. Stay strong.

The younger's childlike antics should have driven Sana up the wall, but they never quite did. Maybe because the older knew the truth: Tzuyu was completely unserious and nothing Sana did would change that. Also, as far as the younger was concerned, Sana's angry face made her look like a fluffy, whiny hamster and it was impossible to take her seriously.

"Honey, I swear—" Sana began, but she was cut off by Tzuyu making a series of dramatic sighs and wrapping the blanket even tighter around herself. "I'm one with the bed," Tzuyu announced solemnly, "The bed loves me. I love the bed. You can't separate us."

"Watch me."

Sana marched over to the side of the bed and grabbed the edge of the blanket, giving it a firm tug. Unfortunately, the younger woman didn't budge. Not even an inch. "Ha! You'll never defeat me!" Tzuyu declared as she clutched the covers like her life depended on it, "I have gym and pilates strength on my side!"

Already regretting every life choice that had led her to this moment, Sana couldn't help but groan. They both knew she wasn't strong enough to take on Tzuyu's ridiculous dedication to morning laziness, but that didn't stop her from trying anyway. She tried to yank at the blanket again, using what little morning strength she had, but Tzuyu remained a stubborn, immovable lump.

"Tzu!" Sana huffed, frustration rising.

"I told you," Tzuyu said smugly, "I'm a caterpillar. Leave me in peace."

To say Sana was done was an understatement. Oh, how she tries to summon every ounce of determination to give the blanket one final, desperate pull. And this time, it worked. The blanket flew off the bed and into the older's arms, leaving the younger sprawled dramatically on the mattress in nothing but an oversized t-shirt and her sweatpants.
