The last vestiges of winter chill bite at Sana's neck as she hops down from the bus and makes her way through the towering school gates, to the start of her third year in university.
Students flock around her, chattering animatedly. Amidst the high-pitched exclamations of 'How was your winter break?' and 'Good, how about you?', she stuffs her earphones in her ear, turns the volume up, and continues up the steps to the school's entrance.
"Sana!"
Something short barrels into her in a blur of limbs, grabbing at her shoulders. Sana is nearly sent lurching forwards, but catches herself in time.
"God, Dahyun," She groans, "If you want to kill me, some warning would be nice."
Her friend sticks out her tongue, "You're so cold. We haven't seen each other for so long—"
"I just hung out with you last week—"
"—I've missed you," Dahyun insists, "And now I get to go to school with you!"
Despite her first day blues, Sana can't resist trapping Dahyun cheeks between her palms and squeezing.
"Baby's all grown up," Sana coos, "First year in college after your gap year!"
Dahyun swats her hands away, complaining, "You know I hate it when you do that."
"I know," Sana grins, turning to walk through the double doors, Dahyun trailing behind with a pout on her face.
"That's why I do it."
"What's your first class?"
"Something maths related," Sana sighs, "You?"
"Lecture on what the course I chose would include!"
"You know where your lecture hall is?"
"No," Dahyun answers brightly.
Sana rolls her eyes affectionately, "Okay, let's go. I'll bring you."
She heads for the stairs, Dahyun in tow, as they pass by students milling around and harried-looking teachers hurrying to their first period.
"Sana unnie," Dahyun tugs on her sleeve, sounding equal parts awed and intimidated, "Who's that?"
Sana's eyes follow her finger to where it points at a gaggle of boisterous students, congregating around—oh. Of course.
"That's Chou Tzuyu. She's the captain of the baseball team."
She massages her temples. The noise coming from the group this early in the morning is making her head hurt.
"She's gorgeous," Dahyun remarks, miming fanning herself.
"Not you, too," Sana sighs. She watches as Tzuyu tips her head back and laughs in response to what another student is saying, her smile wide and genuine, blonde hair catching the sunlight streaming through the windows.
"Her hair is so pretty."
"She's literally just another student," Sana grabs Dahyun's hand, "Now, c'mon."
They're barely able to take a few steps forward before—
"Tzuyu, how was your break?" a girl gushes, surging forward and inadvertently blocking their path.
Sana rolls her eyes and shoulders her way forward, ignoring Dahyun's scandalised giggle. She feels the heat of eyes prickle on the back of her neck, but she's past the point of caring.
She needs to get to class.

Sana is thankful that her Mondays can at least be salvaged by her last period, an elective class: a free period where the students can opt for any class, from film studies to computer science. She'd chosen art, of course.
