Xia Yao's POV

Several weeks have passed, since the whole incident with my "father". Things have gone back to normal again, or at least how they used to be. We were still living with Yuan Zong, even though our house was finished and we could move in again. We didn't tell my mother though, not yet. We were still being very careful and decided to just wait and see, in case my father really was back. It was all still a mistery for me. How the insurance had apparently paid for everything and I had to say, it all sounded a bit too odd for me. And for some reason, Yuan Zong had been dodging my intimate touches a lot recently, which was very weird, since he was literally always in the mood, I guess you could say.

It was 1 in the morning right now and I was still wide awake, laying in bed, while Yuan Zong was still working in his office. He knew I couldn't sleep well when he wasn't beside me, so why would he leave me sleeping all alone? He always made sure that I got enough sleep, while he was working until late at night and it made me mad all the time. I wanted him to rest, to get enough sleep, but of course he wasn't like that. He was basically a workaholic. Pulling the duvet away from my body, I slowly got out of bed and put on my slippers, walking into Yuan Zong's office. I didn't even knock  on the door, just went right in. He didn't even notice me coming into the room, his eyes fixated on the the file he was going through. So I walked up to him, slowly, and sat down on his lap.

"Why are you still awake, love?" I just closed my eyes and wrapped my arms around Yuan Zong's neck, tucking my face further into his chest.

"Couldn't sleep."

"Alright, baby." He continued working, not even fazed of my heavy weight.

"Love me." I tiredly mumbled into his neck, closing my eyes and breathing in his comforting scent.

"I love you, baby. So much. Now let me continue work and go to sleep, love. I'll be in bed soon. Promise." He chuckled and kissed my cheek, trying to move me off of his lap, to which I objected.

"No. Wanna stay here. S' warm." I pouted and cuddled further into Yuan Zong's lap. He was trying to distance himself from me, again, I could tell.

"You need to sleep, Xia Yao." He said, in a serious tone. He rarely ever called me by my name.

"So do you." I crossed my arms over my chest, looking up at him and pouting my lips.

"Why are you so cute?" I blushed a little at his words, hiding my face in his chest.

"I'm not."

"Yes, you are. My cute boy."

"Look who is blushing now!" He added, chuckling.

"Shut up!" I pouted, which he then kissed away.

"You know, your mother has been happier than usual today."

"I know, I've noticed it too. I swear, her constant mood swings are so confusing to me." I sighed.

"She is."

"Get up for a sec, babe." He told me and I did.

"Turn around." I did and after a few seconds I felt something cold being wrapped around my neck, a necklace, to be exact. I looked down at it, it looked beautiful. Old, too, which probably had a deep meaning behind it. It was a silver anchor necklace, that Yuan Zong always wore.
