Xia Yao's POV
Yuan Zong just picked me up from the mall and we were currently on our way back home. He was oddly quiet this whole car ride and he still wouldn't tell me why.
"Can you please tell me, why you're being so weird today?" I pouted.
"It's nothing, babe. Don't worry about it." He just said, sighing.
"It's always nothing to you... Why can't you just tell me the truth? There is obviously something." I said, annoyed.
"I will tell you once we get home, alright?" I sighed and gave in.
"Okay. But promise me, that you'll tell me."
"Yes, Xia Yao. Enough already."
"Promise me." I demanded.
"I promise, love."
We were silent the whole ride back home. And once we arrived back home 10 minutes later, he was still acting so weird. He kept looking around, almost as if to check if someone was following us around. He wouldn't even let me get out of the car by myself. He got out, went over to my side and pulled me out of the car, before grabbing my arm and literally dragging me into our house.
"Yuan Zong! What the hell? Why did you do that?" I asked, holding my now hurting arm.
"Xia Yao... baby." He sighed. He went over to the couch and sat down, holding his head. I'd never seen him so agitated before and it started to concern me. Yuan Zong was never one to let things get to him. Ever.
"What's wrong? You are worrying me..." I said.
"I made a huge mistake, love."
"What is it? Answer me already!" I was getting really impatient and frustrated at this point.
"Hear me out first, alright?" I nodded.
"Your father was here..." I immediately felt a cold shiver run down my back, giving me goosebumps.
"I didn't really realize that it was him at first. I had a bad headache, too and it was hard for me to concentrate."
"Go on..." I whispered.
"He had asked for you, asking if you were home."
"What else?"
"Basically... I told him that I was your boyfriend." I froze for a moment and let everything sink in. This was getting too much for me and I felt incredibly overwhelmed right now. I backed away from him a little bit.
"Y-You did what?" I couldn't believe it. Yuan Zong basically outed us, as a couple, to my homophobic father. One thing was for sure. We were definitely not safe here anymore.
"I'm sorry, love. So so sorry. I know that I'm an asshole and I never do stupid mistakes like that. There is no excuse for that, really. I messed up."
"Yes, you did! I know you can be very overprotective of me, but you took it too far here!" I was really mad. I knew that he didn't mean to do that, but I was so out of it at the moment, I couldn't control what I was saying. The words just flew out of my mouth, like I had no filter at all.
"Xia Yao... I just fucking told you the reason for that. It's not like I did it on purpose. You have to believe me. Please, baby." I sighed and tried my best to calm down. I was shaking so much, I couldn't even think right now.
"He'll come back. Especially now, I just know it. He'll make my life a living hell again." I sobbed, finally letting the tears stream down my face. Yuan Zong immediately rushed over to me and took me into his embrace, holding me close.
"I won't let him, I promise. I'm going to protect you, love. Don't be scared, I won't let him hurt you or get close to you. I won't hurt you."
"Don't promise something you can't keep, Yuan Zong." I said, a bit too harshly.
"I always keep my promises." I sighed and went over to him.
"We can't stay here." I wondered if my mother knew about everything. She had been acting so suspicious too and she was also out of town a lot, just like now. I would have to ask her a lot of questions when she comes back. Right now I was just glad she was safe. I also sent Zhen Zhen a text message, telling him to stay at Peng Ze's house and I also gave the other boys a heads up and told them not to visit us.
"I know, babe. I'll rent a hotel room for us, where we could stay at for a couple of weeks. So go and pack your things."
"I can't believe it. How could you even do that? How could not know it was him!" I yelled, letting the tears stream down my face. I was so angry and upset.
"Baby..."
"Don't call me that!"
"I didn't do it on purpose. Why would I want you to be in danger? Use some common sense, love. I would never want to hurt you, I promise."
"I'm just scared, okay? I can't help it. I thought I could escape my childhood, escape him. I didn't want my childhood to catch up with me and control me." I cried.
"I know, Xia Yao. I know. But you have to believe me, I did not do it on purpose. Why would I want the most important person in my life, the love of my life, to be in danger? I know that I am completely responsible for that mistake and I know that I fucked up big time. If something were to happen to you, I'd never forgive myself for that. I love you, baby. I would never want to hurt you. I'd rather die than see you suffer, Xia Yao." I went over to him and wrapped my arms around his neck.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you. It's just... too much for me right now. I'm scared of him. God knows what he is planning right now!" I sobbed into his neck.
"Breath, Xia Yao. It will be alright, okay? You and me against the world, remember?"
"Yes. You and me against the world."
