Xia Yao's POV

I looked through the peephole and wished I never did. There he stood, with angry looking eyes, the man, that I so desperately wished to never see again. The man, who made my childhood and life, a living hell. The man, who abused not only my dear mother, but also me. The man, that has been haunting my dreams for years now.

"Open the door, Xia Yao!"

My pathetic excuse of a father.

I froze, I couldn't move. I hadn't seen him in years and now he was finally standing on my doorstep and I didn't know what to do. I was scared, petrified, even. What was I supposed to do? I felt like all the air got knocked out of me, I couldn't breath.

Knock

Knock

Knock

"Open the fucking door or so help me god I will kick the damn door open!" He yelled and I started to shake. He was still the same, he was never going to change. I realized that I had called Yuan Zong, but no words came out.

"Xia Yao? Love, are you there?"

"I-I... he i-is here." I whimpered out, silently.

"Who? Calm down and tell me, what is happening?" I tried my best to regain by breath, but I just couldn't. It was all so incredibly overwhelming for me. Too much.

"H-He is back. Y-Yuan Zong, m' scared!" I cried, putting my hand in front of my mouth.

"Stay exactly where you are, I'm coming. Stay calm, alright?"

"I'll t-try." He was still on the phone with me and the banging got louder and louder, it was almost deafening.

"Open the door! Or else I'm going to beat the shit out of you, son." Son... I was never his son. And I would never be his son.

"Are you there, Xia Yao?"

"Yes. Hurry u-up, please."

"I will. Go to our room and lay down. I will deal with him." I really wanted to move, but I just couldn't. My whole body was feeling heavy and I was sweating so hard. I never wanted to see that man again and now he was basically in front of me, threatening me. I just wanted Yuan Zong here with me, I needed him more than ever right now.

Bang

He continued to bang against the door, yelling my name, along with other curse words.

"I know you are home, so you better open the door right fucking now, or else you are going to deeply regret it." I wasn't even fazed by his threats. I heard too many of them in my lifetime.

"I know you are there."

"You and your mother are going to regret this, trust me."

"I'll count to three and if you still don't open the door, I'm gonna surprise you and your dear mother next time."

"One..." I still didn't budge. It was too dangerous, I couldn't open the door while I was home alone.

"Two..." He continued loudly.

"And three! Alright, this was your last chance, Xia Yao. I'll be coming back, when you least expect this, so be prepared." I looked through the peephole and saw that he was walking away and I let out a sigh of relief. I believed every single word he said. He was back to torment my life.

I fell to the ground, tears streaming down my face. This couldn't be happening right now. Not when I was finally happy for the first time in my life.
My father was back. I couldn't and didn't want to believe it.
And he was going to make our lifes a living hell. Again. I didn't know how long I sat there, crying. The tears wouldn't stop streaming down my face and it felt like hours, when in reality it had only been about 5 minutes. I just needed Yuan Zong to calm me down right now and hold me. That's all I needed. So when he finally arrived a few minutes later, I cried even harder. I was so reliefed and happy to see him.

"Xia Yao!" He yelled, when he saw me laying on the floor. He rushed over to me and wrapped his arms around me.

"What happened? Where is he?"

"H-He... I don't k-know." I stuttered out. He took my face in his hands and kissed the tears away.

"Calm down, love, yeah? I've got you, I'm here." I was shaking so hard and I couldn't stop crying.

"Yuan Z-Zong..."

"Pssht, stop crying, Xia Yao. I'm here and I'm going to protect you. Do you know where he got our address from?" I shook my head, no.

Then a realization hit me.

"Mother!" I had to call my mother, what if he was going to get her? Hurt her? I couldn't let that happen. I would never forgive myself if something were to happen to my mother.

"Don't worry about it, love. I called her already. She and her friend are with Yuan Ru right now. They are safe." I let out a sigh of relief. How did I get so lucky with Yuan Zong? He was the best thing that has ever happened to me.

"Okay." He kissed my forehead and slowly picked me up, carrying me towards our bedroom. He slowly laid me down our bed, pulling the blanket over me. I cuddled into his side, his whole body was now wrapped around me. The tears had finally stopped streaming down my face and I could finally form proper sentences.

"Did he say something to you?"

"He threatened me and my mother..." I mumbled into his chest and closed my eyes.

"Oh god, what did he say?"

"That he was going to beat me if I didn't open the door. And that he would be back soon."

"From now on, you are coming with me wherever I go, alright? Don't ever leave my sight. Understand?" I nodded. He was so protective and caring towards me, I loved it. I loved him.

I choked at that realisation, my eyes widening in shock. Yuan Zong stopped talking and looked at me, a worried expression on his face.

"What? What's wrong?"

"I-I... Nothing."

I was just madly in love with you, Yuan Zong.
