today was the best day of my life.
we were lying in his bed around 6:30 right after dinner, and the sun was setting. we decided to go out on the roof and watch, so that's exactly what we did.
we held hands as we sat, my head resting on his shoulder. we then both looked at each other at the same time, and we knew.
tonight was the night. we were going to make love, and that was that.
all josh's family had gone out to the movies, leaving us alone for almost four hours.
he stood up, took my hand, and helped me back through the window in his room we used to get on the roof.
we both got inside, and simply embraced for a minute.
we then pulled back and looked into each other's eyes. i pressed my forehead against his and closed my eyes, opening them when i felt the pressure of his forehead disappear, but he was now holding both my hands.
he was on one knee.
"tyler robert joseph," he smiled. "i don't think i can go much longer without calling you my fiancé. we both always knew we were the ones for each other, and i think that's the most beautiful thing ever. we're 19, and we can't even get married yet until it's legalized, so we've got a little while, but i can't tell you how terribly i want a ring on your finger. a ring that i worked hard for and saved up for since junior year of high school. we weren't even dating yet and i knew i was going to marry you someday. but, i can only marry you if you say yes. forever know that i'm madly in love with you, and i always will be. so, my dear love," he smiled, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a velvet box, inside containing a gorgeous silver band. "will you make me the happiest boy alive, and will you marry me?"
i lost it.
i sank to my knees and tackled him in a hug, nodding frantically and repeatedly saying 'yes' as i sobbed.
he giggled as he fell back onto the floor, hugging me tightly. he held me until i calmed down, his fingers running through my hair gently. "i love you, baby."
"i love you more!" i exclaimed, making both of us giggle.
he picked me up and set me on the bed, crawling over me and putting a leg on either side of my body, leaning down and pressing a long, passionate kiss to my lips.
nothing but the sounds of lips against each other and constant mumbles of 'you're beautiful.' and 'i love you.' could be heard.
a few hours later the family came home, and josh decided he wanted to share the news.
we walked downstairs hand in hand, calling them all to the living room.
"so... we have some really exciting news," josh grinned. "we're engaged!"
i giggled and held up my left hand to show off my ring, everyone cheering and getting up to hug us.
"i'm so proud of you, josh," bill said, hugging his son tightly.
"thanks, dad," josh blushed, hugging his father back.
apparently, josh had been incredibly nervous about proposing. so nervous that he would sometimes throw up just thinking about it.
but, he did it.
my man did it.
"tyty's gonna be my brother now!" abbie exclaimed. i giggled and nodded, picking her up and hugging her tightly.
josh smiled and hugged my waist from behind, pressing soft kisses behind my ear.
"let's go celebrate!" laura exclaimed. "let's go get ice cream!"
"mom, i don't think they wanna celebrate their engagement with us..." ashley giggled. "especially out in public. where kids are."
is josh and i having sex just a running joke in the family?
"w-we can go tonight," i giggled, a blush on my cheeks. "we'll just... do our own private little celebration some other time."
and so we all loaded up in our cars and went out for ice cream, me sitting right next to josh the entire time, our hands never separating.
i finally had a family that loved me and treated me as their own, and it was finally official.
i get to marry my best friend.
