By the time I got to pick up Salem I was already yeh minutes late. Putting the car in park I jumped out and jogged inside. Looking in the classroom I didn't see anyone. Where the hell is she?. Walking some more I notice she was in the cafeteria eating a snack.
"Mommy!" She smiled.
"Sorry I'm late. Come on!" I said. She got up and held her snack walking towards me. Her teacher saw us and walked over "hello again. Salem was a little hungry so I gave her a snack".
"Thanks! Let's go Salem" I said.
"See you tomorrow!" Her teacher waved. We made it outside and I helped Salem in her car seat. "How do you like your teacher?" I asked.
"He's nice and funny" she said.
"Good as long as he's nice" I said. Hearing her tear away at her snack. When we got home Delano was home from work. He looked a little tired. I guess this job will be more work than the one in Arizona. Salem ran inside putting her bag on the floor.
"Salem pick up your bag and put it on the table" I said. She came back and did what I asked. Then she ran to the couch and watched some television. Harlow was playing with her toys and the boys were in their room.
Delano took a seat at the dining room table and I sat next to him going through Salem's bag. Pulling out tons of papers that we had to fill out. "How was work?" I asked. He sighed "it's different than where I was. But... I'm always down for a challenge".
"Is this like owning your own company or are you partnership now?" I asked.
"Partnership. Owning my own company was great but it's a lot of work. Which means I'll be gone a lot more. But I don't want that so I decided on partnership" he said.
"Good choice" I joked. He nudged me with a smile "How was their first day?".
"Salem she had a good day. And the boys I'm guessing had a good day" I said.
He nodded "good as long as the kids are happy then I'm happy".
"Totally agree with you" I said.

"Dad? Can I talk to you?" Ryan stood at the doorframe.
"Yeah, sure" I said. He walked in closing the foot slightly. "Look mom is losing it" he said. Putting my phone down "losing it?".
"Yes! She accused me of calling her stupid friend Ron. And I didn't do it. That idiot said I called to threaten him" he said.
"So he claimed you did that?" I asked.
"Exactly! It's not what I do. And mom is believing him. And after Kai told her I went to bed early too" he said.
I sighed "usually I would doubt what you're telling me. But because you seem to be telling the truth... plus from what I know you don't call anyone to threaten them".
"Thank you!" He said.
"Now I don't know why Ron would lie to mom about you calling him" I said.
"Cause he's slick. I know his type. They act all sweet and nice but the mask can't stay on tight for long. And then involve me?! I'm trying my best to keep my promise but homeboy has to stay away from me" he said.
"Relax! He's all the way across the country. I'll talk to mom" I said. He hugged me which was a little weird cause Ryan isn't affectionate. "Yup, never doing that again! That was too weird for me. Don't get what others get from it" he said.
That night we laid there watching television. When a commercial came on I turned to gia. "So Ryan told me what happened earlier today".
"Did he? And what's your take on it?" She asked.
"My take is our son may have done some things in the past but he didn't call your friend" I said.
"Figuring you would take up for him" she said.
"He's our son... why wouldn't I? Now the real question is why would Ron lie about what he told you? I thought he was a good friend to you" I said.
"And you're so sure Ryan isn't lying.... I mean this is the same kid who told me the blood on his pants was roadkill. But in reality it was Levi's blood" she said.
"When you speak to Ron tell him I said to keep our kids names out of his mouth. I'm trying myself to be calm with the thought of Ron. But I'm also trying to take your word for it. Please don't make old Delano come out" I said.
"Ooo I'm so scared" she said.
"He should be" I said.
"Delano go to sleep. Now you're talking nonsense" she said.
"Gia before I end this. Just please be careful and open your eyes. When you think someone is genuinely nice they aren't. All I'm going to say is one name... Bria. Take a lesson from that". She didn't say anything. Her focus was on the show. Or at least she made it seem that way.
