GIA POV
"So why do I have to go to this therapy session with you?" Ryan asked.
"Because you do" I said.
"That's not really an answer but I'll take it" he smiled.
We walked off the elevator and to the office. A woman approached us "Gia and Ryan, correct?". I nodded "correct".
"Come on in the office" she said. Ryan and I took a seat on the loveseat couch. "Alright, how are you both doing today?".
Ryan shrugged.
"I guess okay" I said.
She sat in the chair across from us "so... what's going? How are you holding up?. I know from the last time things didn't end well".
"Yeah that whole session was a lot for me to deal with" I said.
"I can imagine. And Ryan happy belated birthday! How does it feel to be fourteen?" She asked.
Ryan shrugged "no different than thirteen. And thank you".
"Ryan if you don't mind me asking. Out of all your siblings you spent the most with Bria, correct?".
He glanced at me and back at the therapist "correct".
"Can you explain to me what that was like for you?" She asked.
Ryan glanced at me again "Umm... I don't remember".
"Ryan I wanted your mother here with you for a reason so it's okay for her to hear what you have to say" she said.
He cleared his throat "I mean it wasn't the best times. She was crazy. There would be times she would babysit me and one minute she would be crying and then she was fine. Something wasn't right with her. But my mom liked Bria so I guess if my mom was happy then she was okay".
"Uh Huh! Have you witnessed any strange behavior from her?" Ryan looked at his fingers "Umm.. I know she killed a rabbit in front of me. Just for the hell of it. And she taught me how she killed it".
"So you would say she killed animals as a thrill?" She asked.
"Yeah I guess. She was crazy! You saw it in her eyes. I believe the eyes say the truth about a person and her eyes were twitchy".
"Such a wise young man you are. But that is true" she smiled.
"When you look at your mom... what do you see?"she asked.
"I see a caring sweet sensitive person who's scared because of past trauma" he said. That right there made me tear up. His hand squeezed mine.
"How about your dad?" She asked.
"My dad... he's a caring person but he trying to fill a void of some sort. That's why he cheated on my mom" he said.
"Filling up a void? Like what?" She asked.
He shrugged "you'll have to ask him".
"Can I say something?" I asked.
"Sure to ahead, Gia" she said. I turned to Ryan. "I want to sincerely apologize for having Bria around you. I was so naive when it came to her that I didn't see how evil she truly was. Sorry for putting you in that danger. And being around that nutcase alone. You deserved better than that and I should've known better as a mom. From being harmed by her myself more than once. That should've been my wake up call. I'm so so sorry, Ryan".' Wiping my tears that were falling from my eyes. He squeezed my hand "I don't and won't blame you. You were weak from the person who should be protecting you. But instead she abused you breaking you down. She left you broken so Bria could break you some more. In a way I'm happy dad came along. He took you away from that but not away from Bria".
"I blame you myself for keeping her around when I shouldn't have" I chimed in.
"When she broke up our family I was so mad. Not at you but dad. He should've known better. He knew the type of person Bria was. I can't be mad at you, mom. Your life wasn't your fault it was the people in it. But I thank you for not repeating the cycle. You are and will always be a great mom". By this time I was hysterically crying. Ryan comforted me a little.
"You both have such a close connection as mother and son. It's a beautiful thing" she said.
"Ryan thank you for your honesty" she said.
"It's what I'm good at" he joked.
"And gia I'm proud you allowed yourself to say sorry for letting such evil upon Ryan".
"It wasn't easy but I feel like a weight was lifted off of me" I said.
"That's wonderful!. Well thank you for coming and I hope to see you both back here again" she opened the door letting us out. Ryan turned to me "Mom I meant everything I said".
I hugged him "I know and thank you". We walked hand in hand back to the car.
