That first night after everyone turns in for the night Aaron slips downstairs and approaches her bed. He stops several feet away, closes his eyes and simply listens to her heart. He can't help but feel a pull toward her even though he still doesn't remember her. This feeling makes no sense since he hasn't even spoken to her.
Pulling a chair next to her he reaches out and pulls her hand into his, "Aphmau? I'm not sure if you can really hear me but I've heard it might help to hear people talking. Maybe simply hearing my voice will help. Melissa, my sister has told me all about you, about us. I wish I could say I remember. I've been trying really hard to remember but it just isn't coming to me. She told me everything that happened, everything we all went through. The others have filled in gaps of information she didn't know, about the relics, about Irene. I'm not sure why I need to tell you this...I know I'm this way because of that but you need to know it's not your fault. I know I would do it all again to keep us all safe. Rowan says you're dying, that you're giving up. You can't give up! I'll keep trying to remember if you don't stop fighting. Don't give up on me. Please don't give up!"
Aphmau's fingers and ears twitch and Aaron hears her whimper. His own ears twitch in response and he watches as a single tear trickles from the corner of her eye, "Aphmau?"
He's not sure why but he's disappointed when she doesn't respond. He looks down at her small hand in his and can't help but play with her fingers.
A brief flash of her hand in his at some other point pops into his head and just as quickly vanishes.
His eyes dart to her face but again no change. What was that? Was it a memory?
The sound of nails clicking against the floor fill the room and Aaron turns to see Celestia and Alexander approaching the bed. Before he can stop her Celestia jumps up onto Aphmau's bed, whimpers and then curls up beside her.
Alexander drops to the floor beside Aaron and drops what looks to be a wolf plush. Aaron reaches down to pick it up and the moment he touches it...
A picture of a younger Aphmau hugging it flashes before him
Another memory? He places it on a table beside the bed and leans back in his chair. He closes his eyes and focuses on the sound of her heartbeat. His body slowly relaxes and eventually he falls asleep.
