Chapter 129

When they finally make it home Aaron moves around to Aph's door and after carefully waking her lifts her into his arms. As she snuggles against his chest he feels her lips press against the side of his neck and his heart thumps hard with the love he feels for her.

They barely make it halfway to the house when Zane steps outside and glares at Aaron. "Where have you two been? And why are you carrying her? What's wrong Aph?"

Aph opens her eyes and sighs, "Zane! I keep telling you, you're not my dad! I fell asleep in the car and he can carry me wherever he wants."

Aph watches a man step out from behind Zane and look questioningly at Aaron. She feels like she's seen him somewhere before but she can quite remember where. "Zane might not be your father, but I am. Why are you carrying my daughter Mr. Lycan?"

It's been a long time, roughly 24 years since Aph last saw her father and that was as he was walking out of her life. A trickle of fear rolls through her as she tries to figure out why he's decided to come back all of a sudden.

Feeling vulnerable, she wiggles enough to force Aaron to put her down. Feeling his hand close over her shoulder she relaxes a little.

She can't begin to tell Aaron how much she appreciates the reminder that she's not alone. Aph told Aaron all about her father when they were growing up so it's comforting to know at least one other person other than her mother knows how she felt to be abandoned the way she had.

Taking a deep breath she looks her father up and down but as she begins to speak Aaron unintentionally cuts her off. "Zack? You're Aph's father?"

Zack clenches his jaw, "That's right and you can take your hands off of her monster."

Aph feels Aaron flinch behind her as if he'd been hit and the fear she felt moments ago is replaced by anger. This man has no place calling anyone a monster unless he wants to look in a mirror.

She takes a step forward but Aaron doesn't let her go far. "Don't you ever call him that! While you were off doing who knows what Aaron has been there for me. You gave up the right to be called a father a long time ago. You're just a sperm donor."

She turns to Aaron, "How do you know him?"

Aaron glares at Zack, "He was my physical therapist back on Starlight. I told him all about you and not once did he say anything about being your father."

Aph shakes her head and then whips her head back toward Zack, "SPERM DONOR. Wait you were at Starlight? And mom said you were a werewolf."

Zack takes a deep breath, shakes his head, and reveals his ears and tail. "I worked at the resort as a physical therapist to influential clients. I am a werewolf and I know you were not born one, you didn't inherit the trait. Which means Mr. Lycan here changed you."

Aph shrinks back toward Aaron, "What do you mean? I've always been a werewolf."

Zack growls low under his breath and takes a step toward them, "Don't you dare lie to me, young lady. I know he's the Ultima and that he turned you into a werewolf. He tainted my bloodline with his curse. I will not let my daughter continue to associate herself with this demon. What if he loses control? What if he turns someone else?"

His words bounce around the inside of her head like a rubber ball. How does he know about Aaron being the Ultima? She tries to laugh but even to her, it sounds fake, "What are you talking about? What is an Ultima?"

Just as Zack takes another step toward them and is about to speak Rowan walks past Aph and blocks him. "Zack knows everything. He was partners with Derek, Garte, Elizabeth, and Michael. He helped administer the testing of forever potions on Garroth, Katelyn, and Travis when they were kids. He's been a part of it from the very beginning. He was also Ein's father."
