Chapter 69

Lucinda mumbles under her breath as she turns and leaves the room. Hyria shakes her head, "I guess I have some explaining to do."

Aph glances at Aaron and they both start laughing as Hyria closes the door behind her. Aaron scoots behind her, pulls her up against him, and then rests his chin on the top of her head, "It's hard to believe Hyria has been alive since Irene's time."

Aph shrugs and then flinches, "Shoot I forgot to tell Hyria to watch what she says around Carter. Oh well. I would have agreed before Starlight but seeing Irene in person has changed everything. She was living off the last relic she absorbed and staying in her dimension made her existence possible."

Aaron tightens his arms around her, "Except for her eyes, she looked a lot like you."

Aph nods, "She's a lot like Hyria in that regard, not very original. I bet the first Aphmau looked a lot like me and Irene too. She was living through us to get her happy ending."

Aaron leans Aph back so he can see her face and looks into her eyes, "But you are not her. You have your own personality, your own wants, and desires. It sounds like she was given her happy ending at the end of it all, she was reunited with her lover and child."

Aph sighs, "I got the feeling Shad stuck around as the gate's guardian only because Irene was still alive. He wasn't angry or resentful toward her. He still loved her and couldn't move on without her."

The memory of Aph speaking to Blaze pops into her mind and she really hates to bring it up but she feels Aaron needs to know. He needs the closure. "Aaron, about Blaze."

Aaron stiffens, "What about Blaze?"

Aph gently places her hands over his, "He said he didn't blame you for what happened. He was happy with the life he led and never regretted any of it. He did regret the things he said before he died but he wanted you to know none of it was true. Wherever he was sent I'm sure he's happy and probably partying right now."

Aaron sighs, "Thank you Aph. It helps to hear that. I just wish I had reacted differently. I didn't have to kill him."

Aph turns a little to face him, "What's done is done. We can't change the past but we can be mindful of the future. If we have any little boys we can name one Blaze."

Aaron chuckles, "You do know werewolves can have multiple pups right?"

Aph's eyes widen, "It's a good thing I love babies!"
