Aph watches as Aaron refills her glass and then glances down at Garroth. "Garroth, are you happy with the way your life has changed?"
Garroth stiffens because he had no clue she would ask him such a thing. "Well, I suppose. I never expected it to change like this but I'm ok with it now."
Aph gives him a pointed look, "Right now there is still a chance things could go back to the way they were. Would you be alright with your life if that chance no longer existed?"
Garroth sighs, "I don't mind being a werewolf Aph. I kind of like it actually. So if the chance to be normal again was gone I'd be ok with it. What are you going on about?"
Aph nods and makes a point to make eye contact with everyone at the table. "It's still a work in progress but I'm starting to make sense out of the memories and knowledge I've been given. Our world has always had magic. Every living person can use magic if they know how but the problem is, many just don't. Centuries ago no one knew how to use it except for one person."
Kim quietly interrupts, "Irene."
Aph nods, "Yes, it was Irene. Irene was the beginning of magic as we know it now. She then turned and shared that knowledge with others. But from what I gather no one ever learned to use it as she did. Not only did she have the ability to share the magic, but she also had the ability to take it away. The Ultima was cursed by a demon. The demon was only able to cast that curse because of the magical gift given to him by Irene. I believe she had always intended to reverse the curse but she ended up locking herself away in the Irene Dimension and it never happened."
Kim sits up straight but it's Emmalyn that says, "You can remove the curse!"
Aph smiles, "I can but only if it's what everyone wants."
Zane shakes his head, "How do you know you can do it Aph? And even if you could there are risks to all magic use. It could kill you or the target."
Aph nods, "That's true Zane, there are usually risks to using magic. During my nap this afternoon I dreamt of Ivan. I thought it was just another dream but I'm starting to realize they're kind of like lessons. Although I know Irene died to bring me back she's not completely gone. I have her soul and a piece of her consciousness is still with me. She's much like Emmalyn but, she wants me to figure out things mostly on my own so she only visits when I really need her."
Lucinda flinches, "So Irene is still alive inside you?"
Aph chuckles, "Well some would argue that I am Irene because of the whole soul thing but a part of her is with me. In this dream, Ivan wanted my magic, my power. Irene showed me that it would be nothing for me to either absorb his magic into my own or put a block on it. She also explained that the demon wasn't the only one that could remove the curse. The person who gave him the ability could remove it as well."
Melissa leaned toward her, "This curse has plagued our family since the beginning. Each male descendant has suffered from the knowledge they would pass it on to their son or that it could skip a generation and inflict someone down the line. To be rid of it would be wonderful but there has to be a cost and are we willing to pay it."
Aph nods in understanding. "I asked her that same question. She assured me the only price to pay would be to lose the ability to reverse an accidental change. Removing the curse will not harm werewolves in any way. It will not stop new werewolves from being born. All it will do is remove the mark from the Lycan bloodline and stop it from being passed on to future generations."
Katelyn shakes her head, "Ok, so that is all well and good for werewolves but what about you?"
Aph smiles at Katelyn. She appreciates her concern for her. "There is no overall effect from what I understand. I'm not 100 percent and I am by no means Irene so I imagine I might be tired afterward but she told me that it will not hurt me. I think stuff like this was normal for her and using magic was nothing. She only ran out in the end because she was using it to fuel the barrier to her dimension."
She watches as everyone glances at each other and then focuses on Garroth since this needs to be something he's alright with. When he finally realizes everyone's waiting on him to say something he shrugs, "I'm good Aph. Whenever you're ready, go for it."
