Several hours later Aph wakes to feel Aaron's warmth beside her and her cheek resting on his shoulder, she glances up to find him fast asleep. She thinks over everything that happened after they came back to the cottage and how she literally passed out at the end and knows she's going to get an earful when he wakes up.

She carefully slides away from him trying really hard not to wake him and when she finally pushes to her feet she glances down and is relieved she didn't disturb him. She quietly heads for the kitchen, gathers her dress up off the floor, and pulls it over her head.

Her stomach growls reminding her they haven't eaten since breakfast. She glances at the time and sees that it's too late to have a decent lunch so she decides to start heating up the dinner Hyria left for them.

Not bothering to put her shoes on she makes her way down to the basement, opens the door to the meat locker, and once inside takes a moment to get her bearings. Everything looks like it did the last time she had been in there except for the covered pan holding the lasagna sitting on a shelf to the far right of the door.

The door closes behind her as she crosses over to the shelf and lifts the tray. The soft sound didn't completely register until she turned back toward the door and a small trickle of fear rolled through her.

They didn't have any issues last time so she doesn't exactly understand her reaction. Balancing the pan on the inside of her left forearm she reaches for the inside handle, turns it, and gasps as it comes off in her hand.

She stares blankly at it for a couple of seconds before she feels the worry start to build. Setting the lasagna pan back down she tries to reattach the handle but nothing works.

She glances around the room trying to think of her options and while you'd think it would be easy it's not. Sure she could warm the room with magic and wait for Aaron to come to get her but then she'd ruin all the food in the locker.

The room was designed to stay cold to preserve the food and even the slightest temperature change could spoil everything. Of course, none of it is worth her life.

She paces back and forth in front of the door glaring at the handle from time to time. It doesn't take long for the chill to start seeping in and her whole body starts to shiver.

She moves to stand as close to the door as possible and notices that while it is a little warmer it's not enough to keep her from freezing if she's in there too long. She chuckles like a crazy woman when she thinks it's not nearly as bad as being caught out in the snow at the lodge.

With a frustrated sigh, she rests her forehead against the smooth wood of the door and yells Aaron's name. She knows better than to do it too often but as the seconds tick by the fear grows stronger.

She finally rests her back against the door frame, slides down until she's sitting on the floor, and tries to heat just the air around her. While it's not perfect the slight warmth is enough to chase the worst of the chill away but she knows she won't be able to keep it up forever.

She continues to call out for Aaron every couple of minutes praying he hears her. She knows he's asleep but hopefully he won't sleep for too much longer.
