Aarmau: Remember Me, Remember Us, Just Remember

Chapter 23

Aaron is amazed at how quickly Shu falls asleep. He glances at the clock and can't believe it's almost lunch time. He figures she finished eating almost 4 hours ago so being a werewolf she'll be getting hungry again soon.

Studying the kitchen, he considers what he wants to make for lunch and quietly laughs to himself as grilled ham and cheese sandwiches and potato soup pops into his head.

He begins to head for the pantry just off the kitchen to grab the bread and potatoes he'll need when the front door opens. He turns to see Carter come in and stops what he's doing as the nurse walks over to Shu's bed, circles around to the side by the window and starts messing with something.

He doesn't trust this guy and he growls at him. "What are you doing?"

Carter looks up at him and shakes his head. He lifts up a bag to eye level and shows it to Aaron. "Emptying her catheter bag...unless you were going to do it?"

Aaron blushes and then glares at him. "I would have if I'd known. I'll remember for next time."

Carter sighs as he walks through the door Aaron was heading for and passes through the pantry to a small half bathroom. When he comes back out, he walks back over to the bed and reattaches the bag to the catheter line. He glances at Aphmau and then starts to speak quietly. "Aside from the other nurses that were sent before I assume Miss. Lycan has been caring for Aphmau. There's a lot that goes into caring for an unconscious patient and given your reaction I seriously doubt you've helped Mr. Lycan. But don't worry there really won't be a next time. When she wakes up I will remove her catheter since she's starting to eat solids. That will make caring for her a little easier. For now, I'm going to discontinue giving her IV fluids but I will leave her IV port in just in case we need to give her an injection or even hook her back up. Someone will need to be close at hand at all times to help her use the bathroom. Do you understand this?"

Aaron blushes even brighter. He didn't stop to think what Melissa, Katelyn, Kim and Kawaii~Chan did to take care of Shu and he feels guilty. He nods in understanding before turning back to the pantry door.

Placing the bread and potatoes on the island counter he listens to Carter move around the room behind him and realizes he has no idea how much food to prepare. Since there are only 3 of them he decides to start with making two sandwiches for each of them and a large stockpot of potato soup.

He grabs two thin cutting boards from one of the cabinets and places one on the counter to the right of the stove and the other on the counter to the left of the stove. He then retrieves the stockpot and a flat skillet from another cabinet by the pantry. After setting the skillet on the front right burner of the stove he fills the stockpot halfway full of water, places it on the back left burner and turns the knob to start heating the water.

He counts out 12 slices of bread and places them on one corner of the cutting board closest to the stove. Opening the fridge he pulls out a tub of butter and sets it on the counter just above the cutting board with the bread and then pulls out 6 slices of ham and 12 slices of cheese and sets them on another corner of the cutting board next to the bread. He quickly spreads butter on each side of the 12 slices of bread and sets them back on the cutting board. The sandwiches will be the fastest to cook so with them prepped he turns his attention to the soup.

He counts out 10 large potatoes and after quickly washing and peeling them he cuts them up into cubes using the second cutting board and then drops them into the water in the stockpot. He turns back to the fridge and pulls out several long chives, the leftover bacon cooked for this morning's breakfast and some shredded cheese.

He dices the chives into small pieces and then drops them into the water with the potatoes. He does the same with the bacon, sets the timer for 30 minutes and begins to clean up.

When everything is as clean as it can get, he turns back to watch Carter as he finishes cleaning up the area around Shu. Aaron doesn't even know why he's doing it since they've made sure to keep her area clean.

Aaron picks up his phone and moves over to his chair next to Shu's bed and sits down just as the front door opens again and he watches Melissa, Garroth and Katelyn step into the house.

I noticed the little bathroom during one of either the Hide and Seek or Murder mini-games. Aph and Aaron were hiding in there together :). The pantry is really just a little closet but since it's just off the kitchen it's a pantry now. 

I normally don't butter both side of the bread but I remember Aph does. It could be worse, Kawaii~Chan butters the whole loaf.
