The sudden change of topic catches them all off guard. The nurse really doesn't want to draw more attention his way but at least he can try to help undo some of the damage that was done.

Last night Rowan "convinced" him that he was better off helping them. They know the Guardian Force would be watching them so his new job was to lie his ass off and make them think everything was the way they want it to be. As long as they don't assign a new nurse to Aphmau everything will be fine.

He clears his throat, "Um ma'am? I'm sure you're hungry but eating solids is probably not the best thing for you yet."

Aph turns to him and tears fill her eyes, "What?!"

He fidgets where he stands, "Well, they've had you on liquids for so long your stomach might not handle the change."

Aph slowly blinks and sighs, "What's your name?"

He truly didn't think her response would be so calm, "Um Carter ma'am."

Gritting her teeth, "Carter, I don't care what they've been feeding me. I'm hungry and nothing will stop me from having breakfast. Do you understand?"

Katelyn can't help but laugh at her statement. "Alright then, let's finish making breakfast so Aph can eat."

It took another 20 minutes to finish making enough to feed them all. Melissa remembered what it had been like during Aaron's recovery after the lodge and has to admit Carter is right.

She's been watching Aph struggle to run her fingers through Celestia's fur while Aaron sits next to her watching the exact same thing. Aaron had to come back from 6 months of muscle loss. Aph has been wasting away for at least 8 months. It's only 2 months but even an extra day could mean a lot.

She fixes Aph a plate with spoon sized portions of eggs, bacon and pancakes. She carries it over to her with a small glass of orange juice and places them on the tray they brought in that swings out over the bed. "Here you are Aph."

Aph looks at the plate of food and then up at Melissa, "What is this Melissa? I'm starving!"

Melissa sighs and looks to Aaron for help, "I know sweetie but I hate to admit that Carter's right. You might not be able to even keep this down and your hand is shaking so bad you might not be able to hold your fork. We need to go slow."

Aaron watches tears pool at the corners of her eyes and his heart breaks for her. He pulls his chair closer to the side of the bed and lays his hand on top of her leg until she's looking at him. "It's alright Shu. I'm here. We'll do this together."
