Aph's hand flies to her chest and fists over the scar above her heart. Her whole body begins to shake just thinking of Ein and all the destruction he caused. High school, the lodge, Starlight? She refuses to believe she's related to that monster. Monster?
This time when she laughs she doesn't have to force it. The last time they heard such a chilling sound coming from her was at the lodge.
Aaron calls her name but she's beyond hearing him. "Your son?! And you called Aaron a monster? So Father, did you know Ein was in love with me? How sick is that? How does it feel knowing your son, your blood was so sick and twisted. I will never acknowledge him as anything but a psychotic freak. If Aaron did anything, he saved me."
Zack flinches hearing her words and then shakes his head in denial. "Ein was a mistake. If you really want to marry someone I will find you a proper man, not this thing. If you persist I will just have to tell everyone what he is and this time no one will be able to bury it."
The instant the words left his mouth Zack had a feeling he had made a terrible mistake. He didn't come here to threaten them. He knew exactly what Aaron was and hadn't planned to do more than see her, but something in him snapped when he saw Aph in his arms.
He isn't the only one who knew he had made a mistake. He watches as Aaron tightens his grip on Aph's shoulders and as he says her name his voice is laced with fear.
As his eyes shift from Aaron back to Aph her eyes close and her chin drops to her chest. She takes a deep breath and without lifting her head she opens her eyes and focuses on him.
Zack instinctively steps back as she looks at him with a set of pure white eyes, easily pulls away from Aaron, and starts walking toward him. When she speaks the voice that comes from her is not Aph's but something deeper. "I am so tired of people interfering in other people's lives. Why can't you just leave them alone?!"
Aaron tries to restrain Aph but as strong as she is it's clear it isn't Aph in control. He helplessly watches her walk up to Zack and gently touch the side of his head.
With absolutely no emotion she utters one word, sleep. They all watch as Zack's eyes roll and he collapses to the ground.
Aph turns to Rowan, "Take him to Hyria. Tell her Irene said to put him in the Maze. He'll never get out unless she wants him out."
Rowan grunts, "She? Do you mean Hyria? And that's what Derek and Garte thought about the prison realm. You know, you can't just take over when it's convenient. It's going to cause problems with the Guardian Force."
She shakes her head, "I mean Aph. Only she can truly let him out. If I hadn't taken control Aph might have seriously hurt him. She felt threatened and wanted to protect the one she loves the most. In the end, it would have done her even more harm. The prison realm is one of the few I did not create, I do not know who did. The Maze is my creation, an infinite source of possibilities with no solution, no answer, no end. No one, not even the most talented witch or warlock has ever escaped. Don't worry, my time with her is coming to an end so these little visits will eventually stop, and the Guardian Force will be dealt with."
Rowan scowls at her, "What exactly does that mean?"
With a heavy sigh, she shakes her head again and then turns to Aaron, "Don't you worry about that, and Aaron, don't let her fall."
