Chapter 19

Gene listens to them from the bottom step of the staircase and growls to himself. He wants her but he doesn't want to lose her as a friend, he has too few of them. Sasha and Zenix are with him and shake their heads at his reaction.

Sasha pushes him over and sits next to him, "You know I know we're all kind of friends now but do you really want to waste your time on her? Her and Aaron have been a thing since high school so I don't see that changing now. She's not the only chick in this town."

Zenix nods in agreement but Gene simply glares at them, "This is my chance to show her Aaron isn't her only option. As long as he wanted her as much as she wanted him no one stood a chance."

Zenix sighs at Gene, "He's going to remember Gene and once he does, he'll beat the crap out of you for even thinking of her that way. Be her friend if you want but don't push you luck."

Gene closes his eyes and releases a deep breath, "Whatever..."

As he pushes his food around on his plate Garroth wanders over from the living room and glares down at him, "Listen Gene, these new ears can hear everything. If I can hear you it's a good chance Melissa, Aaron and Aph can hear you too. I suggest you keep your thoughts to yourself or Aaron won't be the only one you have to worry about."

Gene blushes as Garroth walks away and he looks over his shoulder toward Aph. She looks like she's occupied with whatever she's talking to Aaron about but her eyes briefly collide with his before she looks away. Great, just great!

Frustrated he pushes to his feet, walks into the kitchen to wash his plate off and then leaves without saying goodbye to anyone. He's so stupid to show his hand so soon.

Aph watches Gene leave the house and closes her eyes. She suspected Gene liked her after how clingy he was back at Love-Love Paradise and then the way he acted when he worked at the Maid Café but she thought being engaged to Aaron would change that. Clearly, he thinks he has a chance.

Aaron pushes Aph's tray away from the bed and gently touches her thigh, "Hey Shu. You know I wouldn't blame you if you found someone else."

Aph's eyes dart to his as tears pool at their corners, "I am never going to give up F.C. We are soulmates, we are destined to be together. I don't care how many things get in our way I will never walk away."

Aaron frowns, "What if I never remember? You deserve to be happy."

Aph looks up at the ceiling and then over at Aaron, "Sometimes we never get what we deserve F.C. but I'll keep trying. Heaven knows it's not the first time we've had to start over."
