Chapter 105

Aaron knew almost instantly that something was wrong. If he couldn't already hear her heart practically beating out of her chest he could smell the fear coming from her.

He wasn't the only one that had noticed the change and they all cautiously looked at her. He thinks back over what they had been talking about that could have triggered this and then it hits him.

When she first woke up she had a hard time believing this was real. He had to keep reminding her that he was real, that they were all real and not some virtual reality.

He reaches for his phone laying next to his plate and she begins to yell at him. "Do not move! I'm so stupid for falling for this!"

Zane glances at the others. "Aph, falling for what? What are you talking about?"

Aph shakes her head and then covers her ears with her hands. "It's all very convincing! You really had me going and I actually believed it. So what now?"

Melissa glances at Aaron as she watches him slowly reach for his phone. "Aph sweetie. Talk to us. What do you mean?"

Her hands drop from her ears and fist against her stomach as she seems to double over in pain. Aaron closes his hand over his phone and he quickly searches his music file. He used to have Eternity at the front but since he hasn't needed it in weeks he let his phone archive it away.

Garroth extends a hand and then steps toward her. "Come on Aph! It's just us. We're your friends."

The front door suddenly opens and Aaron turns in horror as almost all their friends step through the front door. None of them have a clue what they're walking in on and he yells at them to stop where they are.

You can hear several toward the back of the group collide with someone in front of them but they all do what they're told. Gene, being one of the ones without a direct line of sight, can be heard demanding what in the hell is going on.

Aph suddenly straightens out and as she turns toward the door they can see her eyes are no longer their warm amber color but cold white flames. As she speaks her voice drops several octaves. "Lies! So many lies!"

She extends her right arm and they watch as the celestial sword materializes in her hand. Several by the door gasp and instinctively step back as she moves toward them.

Aaron swears under his breath as he grasps his phone tightly in his hand, rushes up behind her, and wraps his arms around her. He feels her begin to struggle against him and he knows it's extremely important he doesn't let go.

He hears the sword clatter to the floor and watches Katelyn kick it out of reach. In this state of mind, Aph is more powerful and stronger than he could have ever thought. With a couple of good twists, she breaks his hold on her and she tosses him back several feet to the floor.

When she turns to face him he knows she doesn't really see him. With his phone still in his hand, he pushes the play button on the music app and within seconds the Eternity melody fills the air.

She only manages a couple more steps before she freezes in place. The intensity in her eyes dims and the tension in her body relaxes.

Aaron watches her blink a couple of times as tears fill her eyes and he takes a chance to speak. "Shu, it's me, it's F.C. I'm so sorry. I promised you I would make sure to remind you every day that this was all real, that you were not stuck in a damn nightmare, in a damn lie. Things have been going so well that I forgot and you've been so happy. Please forgive me."

As her eyes meet his, she takes a deep breath, the sword disappears, her white eyes flicker a couple of times, and then change back to their normal amber. He watches her whole body start to shake as she drops to her knees and she begins to sob.

Placing his phone in his pocket with the music still playing he slowly crawls over to her and pulls her into his arms. His heart breaks as she curls into him and begins to cry even harder.

Gene pushes through the crowd and glares at Aaron, "What in the hell was that?"

Emmalyn had been at the back of the group as well but she had more experience than any of them. "If I had a guess, that my friend was Lady Irene or at least her ultimate power. Lord Aphmau transformed a couple of times but it was very rare and only when she felt threatened. What in the world happened here? The Goddess can be a scary woman if backed into a corner."

Rowan shakes his head, "Those damn bastards. She clearly has some serious PTSD after what they put her through. It's a really good thing you know her trigger Aaron, or that could have gotten really ugly really fast."
