Aph nods and then gently pats his shoulder. Carter pushes to his feet and swipes the tears from his eyes as Aph's eyes return to their normal color and she places her hands on his shoulders. "I'm relieved you see that I'm not the original Irene and I feel better knowing you truly are with us, Carter. I'm glad your family is doing well."
Carters nods as he steps away and then moves back into the living room. Lucinda glides over, claims the empty stool next to her, and smiles. "Are you ready for tonight?"
Aph eagerly nods as she takes a bite of her strawberry oatmeal. It's Halloween and she can't wait to start decorating. Of course, by using magic it won't take very long but the excitement and anticipation are still there.
She focuses on eating her food as everyone, including Melissa, comes over to give her hugs and congratulations before heading off for the day. Lucinda stays behind so they can start making the changes and they quietly finalize how scary they want to make it.
While Aph insisted that they keep it low-key and kid-friendly Lucinda argued that most people want to be scared on Halloween, including the kids. The Lodge and Starlight were scary enough and Aph's had enough excitement to last a lifetime or two in her case but she sees Lucinda's point.
They settle on dividing the street in half and even decide to make it a competition of sorts. One side will be filled with decorations that will thrill but not terrify. The other side will be filled with decorations that will scare the ghost out of someone.
For the competition, whichever side gets the most visitors wins. They don't really have a prize set up for the winner since neither are interested in truly scaring anyone. They just want to please the visitor.
With breakfast done and Aaron taking care of the dishes, they move outside and glance up and down the street. They chose a dividing line and get to work.
Lucinda's side is filled with creepy spiders, gory zombies, realistic skeletons, and terrifying fairy tale witches. She sets up a six-foot haunted hedge maze, and gloomy graveyard to finish it off.
Aph's side is also filled with spiders, zombies, skeletons, and witches but they're far from terrifying and border on the side of cute. She sets up a face-painting station, apple bobbing booth, pony ride arena, and small petting zoo that anyone can enjoy and not just the kids.
In the center of their creations is a community area with music, a dance floor, and various types of food. With the decorating done Aph hates to admit she's feeling a little drained and will need a small nap before doing anything else for the day.
She smiles as she smells Aaron's particular scent drift toward her from behind and she turns to see him walking toward her. When he stops in front of her he gently pulls her into his arms and leans down to lightly kiss her.
Aph rests her cheek against his chest while he glances up and down the street and feels his chest vibrate as he laughs. "I think Zane is going to be your number one fan with the ponies."
Lucinda joins them and quietly laughs, "True but the boys like scaring each other so we'll see."
