Chapter 136

Aph flinches and then glances at Aaron. She watches him glare at the door to the spare room and knows he doesn't believe it. Either she did too good of a job or it's a trick.

Her stomach growls again but there's no way she can eat until she figures it out. With a frustrated sigh, she heads for the door with Aaron and Rowan close behind her.

Stepping into the room she has the feeling she's done something like this before. Her eyes drift to Garroth as Rowan moves to join him and when she glances in the mirror beside her she doesn't see herself but Lady Irene.

A sense of calm washes through her and for the first time she feels wiser and more mature than she ever has in her life, a matriarch. But she's not nearly old enough, or is she? She would usually let someone else lead in situations like this while she stood back and watched but not this time and maybe never again.

She takes a deep breath and slowly releases it as she crosses over to Zack. She can feel Aaron just behind her and is just as surprised he's letting her take control.

Her eyes connect with Zack's and she sees the shock and surprise looking back at her. "Aphy? Is that really you?"

Aph frowns at him, "Please don't call me that. First, I'm no longer a child anymore, and second, that name was given to me by a man I loved, and as far as I'm concerned he doesn't exist anymore."

Zack looks away as if he's actually hurt by her words. He glances from Rowan to Garroth and then lands on Aaron. Confusion fills his eyes, "Aaron? Aaron Lycan? What are you doing here? Last time I remember seeing you was at our last appointment at Starlight."

Aaron moves forward until Aph can see him out of the corner of her eye. To someone who doesn't know him, he appears calm and detached, much like he was in high school, but she knows it's an act.

Aaron glances at Aph and watches as she subtly shrugs and then nods for him to answer. Aaron turns back to Zack and sees him glancing between him and Aph as if trying to innocently figure them out.

He can't help but notice Zack's ears and tail are hidden and sighs, "Before I start, we all know you're a werewolf so you can stop hiding."

Zack's eyes widen as he looks at Aph. When she nods to confirm Aaron's statement he frowns, shakes his head and they watch as his ears and tail appear.

With a heavy sigh, Aaron nods his approval. "Now that that's out of the way, you should remember me telling you about my girlfriend?"

Zack squints as he searches his memory and then his eyes widen in surprise. "I vaguely remember you talking about her. I remember you had plans, plans to ask her to marry you. Wait, Aphy?"

Aph growls at him and can't believe she hears Aaron actually laugh under his breath. "Yes, Aph is my girlfriend, well fiance now. And Babe, it's better than potato."

Zack opens his mouth to speak but before he can say anything Aph growls again and cuts him off. "Enough! Business first."
