Chapter 24

He pushes back to his feet and quickly heads them off so they don't wake Shu. They all blush as they glance toward the bed and then gather in the kitchen.

Aaron pulls enough ingredients out to make enough sandwiches for the three of them and then turns to the soup to stir it and add some salt and pepper to the water. He turns back to them and finds both Katelyn and Melissa waiting to talk to him.

Katelyn glances at Aph and then back at him. "How has she been?"

Aaron looks at the time and then shrugs at her, "She had a bit of a hard time after everyone left but we got through it. She's been asleep for almost an hour now."

Melissa wanders over to the stove and looks into the stockpot, "Really Aaron? Potato soup?"

Aaron smiles brightly, "What? Hey Melissa, Carter enlightened me as to what you and the girls have done to take care of Shu since she's been home. I'm sorry I haven't been helping."

Melissa rolls her eyes, "Well at least it smells good. What do you mean Aaron? You've been helping."

Aaron blushes, "Not with the harder things. I yelled at him for emptying her catheter bag before I knew what he was doing. I never really thought of what it would take to care for her and I really am sorry."

Katelyn laughs, "Aaron do you have any idea how embarrassed Aph would be if she thought one of her guy friends was helping with that stuff? It's bad enough that Carter is a guy. So don't worry about it, alright? How long do we have before lunch is ready because I'm starving?"

Aaron looks at the time and notices the timer is down to 10 minutes. He checks the thickness of the soup and turns back to Katelyn, "Give me 10 minutes to make the sandwiches and we can eat."

Melissa nods and turns to Aph, "We're going to see if Carter needs any help. When lunch is ready we'll wake Aph or Shu or whoever."
