Chapter 141

The whole time Aaron listened to Aph speak with Zack the hair on the back of his neck stood on end. He's read some of her OC's and while she's good he's never heard her talk like this before. She could give Kaitlyn a run for her money when it comes to acting as long as it's just an act.

They leave Zack behind with Rowan and Garroth as they head out into the hallway and toward the stairs. Before she can take her first step he reaches out and stops her.

She turns to face him and instead of seeing the confident woman he just spent the last 20 minutes with, he sees eyes that are full of doubt and uncertainty. "Aph? Are you alright? I was going to ask you what all that was but something tells me that was the best acting I've ever seen."

Aph glances toward the door and shushes him. "He's a werewolf Aaron and I don't want him to hear us."

She grabs his hand, pulls him down the stairs, through the kitchen, and into the small bathroom. She can hear Melissa laughing as she closes the door and turns the water on.

Aaron glances at the running water and shakes his head. "You know he can probably still hear us of course it won't be as clear. Judging by Melissa's laughter, who knows what they're all thinking."

Aph rolls her eyes and then sighs, "Let them think what they want and that's why we're going to talk really really quiet. It wasn't all an act. In the beginning, I felt different, not the scared little girl I used to be. Of course, the doubts started rolling in and I pretty much winged the last couple of minutes. I don't think he remembers who the Ultima was, but I think altering that bit of information might have tainted a few things. I plan on telling him everything I know except I'll generalize the Ultima. He can't hurt me, not really and once he leaves tonight we'll never think about him again. I really didn't look through all his memories and I don't really want to do that again and won't unless he lies to me. Let's just get through dinner."

Her stomach growls again as if approving the idea of dinner and Aaron can't help but laugh. He turns off the water and then follows her back out into the kitchen to see everyone glance their way as they head for the food.

Melissa giggles, "That sure was fast."

Aph shakes her head at Melissa, "Get your mind out of the gutter. So Zack will be down any minute and I do not want anyone speaking to him, especially you, Mom."

Sylvanna stiffens a little and then shrugs. "I have no intention of ever speaking to that man again. Now, Eric, I have no control over him."

Aaron turns to Eric, "That goes for everyone. Aph is running this show and we are way past dress rehearsal. Oh, you would have been proud of her, Kaitlyn. She put on quite the show upstairs."

Kaitlyn laughs as Aph fixes herself a plate of food and carries it over to the table. As she's about to sit down she realizes she forgot a drink and turns back toward the kitchen to find Aaron is way ahead of her.

She smiles softly at him as she watches him place a Poopsi down at her spot and then sits next to her. She loves that he knows her so well.
