Chapter 128

Aaron glances back at Aph from time to time on their way home from Hyria's. He still can't believe he actually suggested they stay in the forest for a while and that Aph seemed excited about it.

Aaron would do anything for her and if this helps her heal then they'll do it. Besides, he gets to spend a lot of time alone with her and that's all he's ever wanted.

He knew she had been pretending to fall asleep in the beginning, that she had something on her mind and wasn't ready to share it. He couldn't help but laugh when she actually did fall asleep.

Looking down at his chest and his missing scars he had been really worried about how using that much magic would affect her once they left the forest but other than this little nap she seems fine. He knows he's been worrying a lot about her since his memories came back and that he hasn't exactly been good at keeping it from her but he would be lost if something happened to her.

She keeps saying she doesn't want to be a burden, that she wants him to be happy but she doesn't realize taking care of her is what makes him happy. He knows she would do anything for him no matter the cost. She literally put her life at risk today to heal his scars so why does it bother her to let him do the same?

He glances at Lucinda and flinches to see she's looking back with a sad smile in her eyes. "What's wrong Lucinda?"

She shakes her head as she looks back toward the road, "Nothing is really wrong. You two love each other so much you can feel it. Sometimes it hurts to see it, it's just so strong and so obvious. I don't think any of us have found that yet. Zane and Kawaii~Chan are getting close though which is scary for Zane. I wish someone felt that way about me."

Aaron smiles as he glances at Aph but then growls as he thinks of Ivan, "I've known Aph a very long time, Lucinda, since middle school and I can honestly say I loved her long before I really knew her. Ivan's an ass and you can do so much better but I know you'll find someone made for you. He's been nothing but trouble and no to change the subject but we need to do something about him. I'm worried Aph is planning something and I don't want her anywhere near him. The way he's been looking at her since the Cafe bothers me."

Lucinda sighs, "Ivan covets power and only associates himself with someone that has a lot of it. I have no doubt if he could take it he would. Even though she's been really good at hiding it, he felt her power that day and I'm afraid he's obsessed with her, she's a mystery. His obsessions can get really scary. The thing about Ivan is that he's passable when it comes to magic. He is no direct threat to her but it's not beneath him to use one of us to get to her and you know Aph, she'll sacrifice herself to protect us."

Aaron glares out the window, "That's what I'm worried about. She went into that damn cave to face Ein alone thinking he would spare the rest of us. I won't let her do that again. I know she's getting better at using magic but she's not strong enough yet."

Lucinda chuckles, "Aaron honey, Aph is going to do what she wants if it means protecting us. You won't be able to stop her. You would die for her and she would die for you, that's just how true love works. I know you can't feel it but she's much more powerful than you think. Besides I get the feeling she doesn't plan on actually hurting him. She has a plan and as long as we stay out of his reach she'll be fine."

Aaron sighs and nods as he looks down at his chest again, "It would be the lodge all over again."

Lucinda glances over at him, "I couldn't help but notice you're missing a few things."
