Chapter 47

Aaron nods as he repositions Aph in his arms and then pushes to his feet. Crossing back to her bed he gently sets her down and pulls the covers back over her legs and then tucks them in around her.

Their eyes meet and he smiles before he tenderly brushes a kiss across her lips. "Try and get some rest. I'll make sure they keep the noise down babe."

Tears burn at the back of Aph's eyes as she nods, "I'll try. Maybe you can convince them to let me move back to our room?"

Aaron smiles, "I'll see what I can do."

As Aaron steps away Carter approaches the bed and they all listen to Aaron growl at the nurse. Carter rolls his eyes and shakes his head, "I'm not going to do anything wrong, Mr. Lycan."

He quickly looks Aph over and frowns, "My Lady, where's your IV port, and what is on your neck?"

Aph's eyes dart to Aaron and a blush spreads across both their faces. Aph clears her throat, "FIRST, quit with the My Lady crap. And, well, um Gene kind of walked in on us kissing earlier and um, got a little upset."

Zane looks around the room for Gene and realizes he's not with them. His head snaps back to Aaron and fixes him with a glare, "Wait, kind of kissing? What do you mean a little upset?"

Aaron sighs and purposefully ignores Zane's pointed glare, "He thought I was forcing myself on Aph. Aph tried to correct him and her IV port got snagged in the covers and was pulled out. Gene said he'd be back in a couple of days to apologize to her."

Melissa giggles, "Looking at her neck you were doing more than just kissing Aaron."

Aaron growls and then glares at Melissa as Aph buries her face in her hands. "Really Melissa?!"

Melissa laughs even harder, "What?! It's about time you two did more than just the polite little pecks I've seen."

Aph grabs the covers and pulls them up over her head. Every quietly laughs until Katelyn clears her throat, "Alright everyone let's leave Aph alone so she can rest a little before dinner."

Aaron stays by Aph's side as the group spreads out. She pulls the covers back down, glances up at him, and then asks Kim to come to her. She looks around to make sure no one else without super wolf hearing is listening and reaches out for her hand. "Emmeline?"

The transition between Kim and Emmaline is so smooth now that you would never notice it happen. "Is there something you need Aphmau?"

Aph smiles at her and squeezes Kim's hand. "You need to know; she never gave up on you. She never stopped looking for you. And Emmaline, when you're ready to cross over, your Kenmur is waiting for you."

Kim's eyes widen as Emmaline gasps, "Lord Aphmau?"

Aph simply nods and watches as tears fill Kim's eyes and spill over her lashes. "Thank you for telling me!"

As she walks away Carter approaches the bed and glances at Aaron. "I think we should reestablish the IV port but you'll be fine without it for now and I don't think you need the monitor anymore. So, after dinner, I'll disassemble both and pack them away."

Aph sighs as Carter wanders away and then looks up at Aaron again who clearly hasn't taken his eyes off of her. Aph is so exhausted she has no idea how she's still awake but she gathers the last of her strength and scoots over on her bed.

She pats the empty space next to her and blushes, "Aaron, will you stay with me?"

Aaron can feel his ears burning, "But what about everyone watching?"

Melissa groans from the kitchen, "Just do it!"

He rolls his eyes and then carefully climbs in next to her. He places his arm behind her head and as she snuggles close, he lowers the bed until it's at a slight incline.

He feels her instantly relax against him as he rests his cheek against the top of her head and gently caresses the back of her arm with his hand. He knows the moment she falls asleep and his heart aches with how much he loves her. Listening to her heartbeat and breathing in her scent calms him like nothing ever has before. His eyes drift closed and within seconds he falls asleep.
