First Xingyun week prompt: Classmates!

We're gonna pretend I'm not two days late because my motivation absolutely tanked for some reason, but even though they'll probably be later than the dates they were supposed to be posted I'm still working on the prompts. Guys I swear I don't do it on purpose why am I always late to everything or post shit not on time I don't get it 😭

Also, a big thank you to @yunniepookie for the title idea! I'm sorry it took me so long to do it, I promise to anyone who gives me suggestions I keep them all in mind and it's likely I've written something for it, it's just buried in my drafts somewhere 😭

Chongyun ducks his head to his paper as soon as their teacher says the test has started, scribbling away with his pencil until he gets down to an answer he doesn't know.

Well, he supposes he'll just skip it. He can come back to it later.

A few questions down though, and another one stumps him. Was this even on the study guide? Or in the book? He swears his teacher adds random shit to their tests just to mess with them.

He skips it again, dutifully scribbling in answers for essay questions and filling in true or false ones, pausing once again when there's another question he doesn't know.

Chongyun's never really been good at his English class, especially since there's a very small section of books he actually cares to read (mystery novels with paranormal elements), so it's no wonder his grade sits at a hard to look at C+.

He exhales through his nose, deciding that 'whatever, I'm taking a break' and begins scribbling on a blank space on his paper. He'll just make sure he erases it before Ms. Lisa gets ahold of it, because he does not need to be called in to explain his drawings to her.

He likes to doodle random people, either original characters that just pop into his head with no backstory or book characters on the off chance he likes their design. Sometimes though, he likes to draw his classmates too, just to practice drawing different features like noses and eyebrows to see if he's good at drawing people to the point they're discernible.

He quietly looks up, eyes scanning the classroom for any of his friends to doodle. Hu Tao's usually in this class, but she was sick today. Gaming sat behind him, so he couldn't choose him either.

Beside him is a girl with thick, navy hair cut in awkward, uneven lengths and one long earring dangling from her right ear. Her posture is perfect, and every once in a while she continues to fix the hair tucked behind her ear because it's too short to stay for long.

She's cute, Chongyun deduces. He really can't recall why he didn't notice this girl before, but that's likely due to his own introverted nature. He feels like any attempt to talk to other people outside of his tiny circle gets awkward fast, so he opts for just staying within his own little bubble.

He sits and debates with himself if it's weird to sit here and draw this girl that he doesn't even know the name of, but eventually he decides to indulge his curiosity, take one glance at her for a reference, and then sit there in the calm serenity that comes with drawing. He feels like it always brings him some kind of peace away from the turmoils of heat-stricken days and stressful class sessions. Drawing's like his sanctuary away from all of that.

...Or at least, it is when his pencil doesn't break. He's halfway through adding the little details of sharp eyelashes and a long, slender nose to her face when his pencil tip breaks, sending a scratch of lead across her. Well, so much for that.

He sighs quietly, tapping the side of his head in worry to try and figure out what to do. Ms. Lisa doesn't keep extra pencils around, and there's a strict no-talking-during-tests policy. The school year is almost over, so he hadn't bothered to go buy some more pencils (which really, he should've considering how many he goes through and how many tiny pencil nubs there are in his pencil pouch.)
