Alrighty so this one is based off of Xingqiu's interactions in the 'Travlers' Tales: Anthology Chapter' event that's going on in Genshin rn, it's not needed to watch it before reading but I do recommend because his interactions (specifically the third one) are so cute
Also the title is supposed to be prose + romance put together and I really hope that's obvious what I was going for 😭
Xingqiu hangs off the edge of Chongyun's bed, his head on the floor while he stares up at the ceiling with his calves still on the mattress and his body twisted into a position that Hu Tao would have swiftly determined he was dead in.
His book lays beside his head, forgotten after a disappointing plot twist that left a sour taste in his mouth and throughly spoiled his mood - the whole story was a dream made up in the main character's head, which was revealed halfway through the big fight scene and totally ruined the entire story.
He hears the squeak of Chongyun's desk chair while he looks over his shoulder to raise an eyebrow at him, understandably confused as to why Xingqiu has contorted his body into a human pretzel in the floor. Despite his face looking nearly unreadable to anyone else, Xingqiu can read the bare traces of disgust and 'Xingqiu what the fuck are you doing' creased between his brow. Xingqiu thinks it's funny and sinks further to the floor.
"What...what on earth are you doing?" Chongyun asks after a few seconds of a staring contest Xingqiu deems himself the winner of. He knows if Chongyun weren't so sweet and his Yang energy wasn't an issue, he probably would have phrased it a lot less nice.
"Staring into the abyss of drywall above your bed because my literary adventure has ended in a dumpster fire." He sighs dramatically before moving to sit up on the floor properly, looking up at Chongyun. "What are you doing?"
"Writing." He says simply before immediately regretting it upon Xingqiu's eyes widening and scrambling to stand beside him, ignoring the fact his hair is messy now while he peers at the paper in front of Chongyun.
"I'm in charge of giving a short speech tonight at a clan meeting, so I'm writing it down to read off of." He explains while Xingqiu reads over his words before he frowns. "And I thought you hated when I read your writing, how come it's okay to read mine?
Xingqiu doesn't even register Chongyun's comment, as he can safely say that his jaw is on the floor and his cheeks are already getting red, reading over the most gorgeous, beautiful handwriting that would probably make angels cry if they saw it.
Xingqiu knows his own handwriting is abysmal, it's like trying to read random ink smudges as words, and therefore he tries not to stare at other people's handwriting for fear of jealously - jealousy is very unbecoming of a chivalric person in the making, after all.
But Chongyun's handwriting is just so perfect, for lack of a better term, it makes him want to read an entire book in his font. The letters are all elegant and curly, careful little pen strokes designated to each character like Chongyun were writing the most important story in existence.
It's easy to read with perfect spaces in between each word, and Chongyun's pen lays stationary in his right hand while he looks at Xingqiu gawking in concern. It's not that Xingqiu doesn't know Chongyun's handwriting is nice, but today it looks positively beautiful in ways that nearly make his eyes water.
"...Is it that bad? I know I'm not much of a writer, but..." he looks away, scratching the back of his head before Xingqiu picks up the paper, staring at all the perfectly dotted 'I's and cute, bubbly 'w's with awe.
"Chongyun, your writing is beautiful." He says, unable to tear his eyes away. "I mean, I know my handwriting isn't pretty, but yours is just..."
