I could write about the rather eventful New Year's this very year
but there wouldn't be much to say other than just a bunch of drunk kids and old classmates playing drinking games and catching up

I would much rather tell you about the New Year's two years ago when the same things happened with the same people in the same place
except we were a bunch of kids
marvelling at the fireworks
screaming at the top of our lungs
2020 is gonna be the best year of our lives!!!

and then it wasn't
but we didn't know it then
and maybe the fact that we didn't
was the best thing about that night
that we didn't know we'd be robbed of our youth in a couple of months' time
that we wouldn't be allowed this feeling of utter joy
making memories with who the hell cares who

and without knowing
we had the best time in our lives
so now
looking back at that night
after so much time has passed
we can proudly say we didn't waste our opportunity to be free one last time
