she loves yellow
but she likes soft yellows
a yellow that you could snuggle into
with a cup of a coffee and a good book
something pale and fragile and kind
she doesn't know that She also loved yellow
(but She loved a bold yellow
bright and happy and the center of attention
like a daisy or like the Sun)
she loves blue
but she says it's a colder color
(i think blue is calming and serene
it helps my anxiety)
she says blue reminds her of shivers and fuzzy socks
and cold oatmeal that you have to eat
because you're all out of milk for cereal
she says she only loves blue
because i am blue, i love blue, and blue is me
she loves purple
nothing too eye-catching
something like lilac
"a cup of tea on a lazy thursday,
when all i'm wearing is a pair of wool socks
with embroidered purple kittens
and a worn-out button down that you own"
something that smells fresh and tastes bittersweet
she loves red
even though to her it can never be soft enough
or pale or kind enough
she just likes it once in a while
because otherwise it's too much
"it has a taste" she says
"that's sweet and exotic and passionate
but if you eat too much of it
you'll get sick"
she loves brown
it's simple and earthy
it's stable and clean
"like a subway ride in new york city,
with a paper grocery bag full
of tomatoes and celery and peppers of all colors and sizes.
and you're in rain boots, probably an orangish yellow with polka dots.
but it's not raining, you just like to wear rain boots
so you have an excuse to splash in a mud puddle
just in case you even find a mud puddle"
she loves colors
because they're music to her eyes
she can hear the colors singing quietly
and it makes her happy
"it'd be terrible to live in a world without colors
but if you'd never seen a color
then you wouldn't even know what you were missing
and you wouldn't ever need to see more"
