i am a boat
floating in the middle of the ocean
the ocean as dark and empty
as i am
the waters inconstant--
sometimes calm
sometimes choppy and rough
i am a boat
but no one sails with me
and the wind just tosses me around
instead of carrying me on
at times there are dolphins
and other sea creatures
that come up and swim with me
for a few hours
but i always end up drifting away
more like a piece of broken driftwood
instead of a boat fit to ride the waves
the sun is harsh and cruel
but my only companion
the sun beats down on my polished sides
wrinkling and weathering me
salt water and time have erased my name
so no one knows who i am
or who i belong to
it's very quiet
on this sea
but it's very lonely
and tiresome
