mother may I
pretend I was young again
back when it was summer everyday
and you told me I was special
and that you loved me
mother may I
tell you I love you
without you asking what do
I want from you
I just want my mother back
mother may I
act like we're one happy family
and dad's alive
and Steve is out of the picture
and life is good
mother may I
bake bread with you again
and you'll laugh at how
I get covered in flour so easily
and I'll be happy
mother may I
get a hug?
and not a slap?
not a "god you're such a
disappointment"
mother may I
make you proud
make you happy
make you glad to call
me your son
mother may I
come home?
