I followed Ross upstairs and into his room, his suitcase sprawled over the bed with clothes hanging out and the windows letting in the cold crisp air. 'What do you need help with?' I asked him. 'Clearing some space, after Kim left I spread out and need some help organising and I know you would do a better job than me.' he said then smiled at me. 'I am not your mother Ross Hornby.' I said sitting on his bed, 'I know, I know, I just wanted to talk to you.' he sat next to me. 'What's happened?' he asked and I sighed internally. 'Come on.' he nudged me, 'tell me what happened.' he said and I looked at him before looking back at the floor, 'We wanted to tell you all together.' I said, Ross shuffled in an uncomfortable fashion, 'ok, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to....' he started but I cut him off, 'Smith found my mum.' I said. WHAT?! really? how? Where is she? Is she alright? Are you alright?' he asked with a mixture of excitement and concern. 'She's fine, she was the waitress that we have at the cafe in town.' I told him, 'holy shit.' was all he had to say. 'yeah, she came with us to see Lewis and Hannah Christmas day.' I said as Ross calmed down, 'you don't seem excited.' I shrugged my shoulders, 'I know I should be and I think I am it's just... just...' 'a lot to take in.' Ross finished and I nodded. 'I understand.' he added and I looked at him confused. 'You do?' I asked and he nodded. 'you finally thought your life was on the path you wanted, your uncle was taken care of, you have a supportive group of friends and nothing seemed like it could go wrong. Then she showed up and nothing is clear any more.' he said understanding completely. 'I think Alex feels bad.' I told him and he shuffled closer to me so our arms were touching. 'He went through so much trouble to find her and everything and I can't seem to deal with it.' I told him and he nodded, 'have you told Smith?' I shook my head, 'I don't think I need to, I think he knows. I think my mum knows that I am not completely comfortable with the whole situation as well. What should I do?' I asked him and he sighed. 'Well, I guess one step at a time. You don't have to pretend everything is normal because it isn't. Think about it. Your mum left, you were left with an area hole, you lived on the streets having fun away, came across a bunch of dorks who make videos for the internet and now this has happened. It's not a normal situation.' everything he was saying was helping. 'Ok, yeah, sure. Thank you.' I said before hugging him, 'no problem.' Ross said, 'can we tidy up now?' Ross asked and I chuckled, 'fine, fine, fine.'

Ross and I were pretty much finished clearing space in his room for Kim's stuff when I heard Trott shout they were home. Ross and I left the room and went down stairs. 'Hey.' I said hugging Katie and then Trott. 'How was it?' I asked, 'cold, wet but fun.' Trott said, 'yeah we saw most of my family, it was a lot of fun.' We all went through to the living room, ross, Trott and Katie all sat on the sofa and Smith and I stood before them. 'You still want to tell them all together?' he asked as Kim walked past, 'Ross already knows, I can do this.'

After everyone was comfortable I held Smith's hand and cleared my throat getting everyone's attention. 'Ok I have some news for you guys.' they all looked at me in anticipation. 'Smith got me something pretty interesting for christmas.' before I could go on there was a knock on the front door. Smith went to answer it and came back followed by my mum. 'Guys this is my mum.' all of their faces looked slightly confused and baffled, even Ross. 'That's the waitress from the cafe.' Trott pointed out, 'That I am but I also happen to be Abbey's mum, Kelly.' she waved at them discreetly. 'So you're not in America with some guy?' KIm asked and she shook her head, 'no, just in grey bristol. Everything you know about me is probably fiction I am afraid.' All the time she was speaking she walked further into the room. 'This is wonderful. oh Abbey I am so happy for you.' Katie said getting up and hugging me. I didn't say anything. 'I don't think Abbey is used to this yet.' My mum said adjusting her stance slightly. 'Yeah it is a lot to take in.' I said pulling away from Katie. 'She probably doesn't really want me here.' My mum said again looking at me directly. 'Listen, you don't know me, that's no one's fault. Don't go making assumptions about me. We will get to know each other eventually. I have managed to do the best with what I have been handed in life. I have turned a shit situation into a life that I love. I have amazing friends who have been through everything with me and the best boyfriend in the world. Just give me some time to figure this all out please.' I could feel my voice go towards the end so wrapped it up quick. 'Ok, I am sorry, I just want things to be normal between us. I looked at her, 'I am sure they will be.' I told her but I thought the opposite.
