For MadisonTidwell , hope it's okay :D

Imagine being in love with Klaus and finding out that he had to be desiccated.

----------------------

You'd been dating Klaus for around 2 years now, and to say it had been a rollercoaster ride was an understatement. You're relationship with the hybrid was quite controversial as your friends of Mystic Falls weren't exactly on good terms with him. However you always made sure to try and bring them all together a few times a year, not wanting them to feud forever.

Lately Klaus had become more deadlier than you'd ever seen him before, causing so much death in his attempt to gain something in return. Despite his promise to you, that he wouldn't ever harm you or put you in harms way, the same couldn't be said for the likes of your friends.

Some, if not all, had been involved in some kind of fight with the Original at some point or another. The scariest thing was when your phone rang.

Wondering if it would be someone ringing to tell you that Klaus had been killed, despite that being highly unlikely. Or that Klaus had killed one of your friends. It was a fragile thing that they all had with Klaus, you knew that one mistake could send the entire 'passive approach' south and result in death. Their deaths.

Despite all of this, you didn't know why or how. But you still loved him. Even in his darkest moments, you looked to him for support and trust and felt reassured by his constant strength.

"You don't need to be so scared love." Klaus chuckled as you sighed and walked over to him, wrapping your arms around him.

"How long will you be?" You questioned and stared up at him.

"Not long, a few hours maybe?" He replied as you sighed and nodded your head. Klaus said he had some 'business' to attend to, the word always made your heart drop as you knew that meant someone was likely to die. However Klaus didn't seem to show any signs of annoyance or anger as he began to walk towards the door, you followed close behind him. Apprehensive as to knowing what was going on in his head, wishing that it wouldn't sever the delicate bond between him and your friends.

"And who's dying tonight?" As soon as the words left your mouth you regretted being so brave as to question him. Klaus stopped walking and turned to face you. His expression seemed to darken as he shook his head at you.

"It's none of your concern love and if I were you then I'd remain silent until I return because I'm not in a very testing mood." Klaus spoke as you nodded and gulped, wishing that you had more strength to stop this conflict. Following his words, you turned and headed for your room. The sound of the front door closing echoed through the empty house as you sat and waited for this whole thing to be over.

[A few hours later]

You woke up slowly from your nap, groaning and stretching out. You'd dosed off shortly after Klaus had left, dreaming of a world where everybody got along and nobody died.

As you rose from the bed and began to walk across the room, you noticed the time. Klaus had been gone for nearly five hours. You checked your phone but you didn't have any missed calls from him, or anyone for that matter. You frowned and swiftly walked out of your room to see if Klaus had come home.

"Klaus?" You called out, however your only answer came from the ancient grandfather clock next to the stairs, it ticked loudly as you looked around desperately.

You ran down the stairs to search the rooms, turning on all of the lights in a frantic attempt to find him, as if he was hiding. You were panting loudly in panic, he'd never been gone this long before. Usually he would be back in an hour or two, sometimes even less.

So what could have held him up that's taken five hours?

The sudden vibrating and beeping of your phone sounded, splitting the thick silence and causing you to gasp. You shakily answered the phone upon seeing who it was. Stefan.

"H-hello?" You muttered into the phone.

"Y/N? It's Stefan...uh...y-you n-need to get here now...I'll um text you the address." Stefan spoke cautiously before hanging up, not waiting for a reply. Seconds later an address appeared on your screen and you grabbed your shoes before running out of the door and got into your car. Stefan sounded slightly scared, as if fearing your reaction to whatever has happened.

"What'a happened?" You questioned to Stefan as you get out of your car, running towards him as he jogs over to you.

"This way." He says motioning for you to follow him.

"Where are we going?" You ask as you hear Stefan loudly sigh.

"Look Y/N before you see or do anything, I just want you to know that he was going to kill Elena." Stefan spoke as your heart dropped, your breath hitched in your throat as you stopped walking.

"What did you do?" Your shaky voice is barely audible as Stefan continues to motion for you to follow him, instead you push past him and break into a run.

You turn a corner and gasp at the sight in front of you. Alaric stepped away from the coffin and stared at you apologetically.

However you weren't paying him any attention.

It was the desiccated Original chained into the coffin that made you fall to your knees.

"I'm so sorry Y/N." Stefan spoke from behind you as tears began to brim in your eyes.

"What-what..." Your voice trailed off as nothing made sense. "Is he...d-d-"

"No but he'll be like that for a couple thousand years." Alaric says bitterly whilst glaring at the coffin, this angers you as you rise up and speed towards him. However Stefan grabbed your arm and pulled you back, you glared past him at Ric angrily.

"Go." You spoke harshly as Ric looked slightly stunned. "You heard me, go!" You shouted as Stefan nodded to him, Alaric swiftly retreated away. As soon as he was out of sight, you walked over to Klaus still in shock.

His body was a dull grey colour and covered in raised veins, you searched desperately for any sign of movement but found nothing. It hurt, it felt like someone had struck you in the chest with a wooden stake, or slowly ripped your heart out. You kneeled down next to him and let the warm tears fall, praying and wishing that he would wake up. But he didn't.

You could't tell what was hurting more;

You were now alone.

or the fact that you never got to say goodbye...
