Imagine Klaus planning to drain you but you change his mind.

You didn't know where to go.

Everywhere that you went reminded you of him.

He just seemed to be so deeply woven into your life that now it felt like the most intense and agonising pain as he ripped himself out. Your boyfriend since high school. You thought that you'd found a love to last a life time.

You thought wrong.

When he told you to meet him, you could tell something was wrong.

But it was only when he spoke the words that he was leaving town did you realise what was going on. He was leaving. Leaving town. Leaving the country. And leaving you behind.

You thought that you only broke up from people if you didn't love them anymore. Not because you were going far away.

It didn't make sense to you how easy that he'd found it. How he could just stand there and watch your heart shatter.

All you could do was walk around. You didn't care if it was night time. You didn't care if the town had been experiencing multiple 'animal attacks.' You were done caring. Look where caring had got you.

You took a seat on a nearby bench in the town square and rested your elbows on your knees. You couldn't go home, you couldn't go to the grill, you couldn't go anywhere. Photos and memories seemed to be ghosts and remnants that haunted you, a constant reminder of the past behind you. Of him.

It was becoming too much as you sat there and silently let the salty tears roll down your cheeks. All you wanted was to have some comfort, it was all you needed at that moment.

Your parents both worked night shifts which meant that you wouldn't see them until tomorrow morning, you didn't want to face anyone else so you just sat on the bench. Wishing for the sun to begin climbing up the sky so that you could cry whilst in your parents arms.

Unbeknown to you was the shadow behind you. The creature of the night that lurked on the edge of the shadows. He observed you carefully as you sat for hours on end. His plan had always been simple when he saw people at night. You snatch them, drain them and then make them disappear. It was second nature to him, and you were in his sights right now.

Cautiously he stepped out of the shadows, crossing over the manicured grass plain in the middle of the square. Using trees as shields to mask his stealthiness in such an open area. Thankfully nobody apart from her appeared to be around at this time of night, this seemed way too easy for him.

You sat feeling slightly numb, no more tears would surface as they all sat dried out on your cheeks. The wind rustled through your hair and down your spine, causing you to shiver in the night air.

"It's a bit late to be out here don't you think?" A male's British accent caused you to jump out of your skin in shock.

"Oh my god." You put a hand to your thumping heart.

"Sorry love, I didn't mean to startle you." The man spoke and came and sat on the bench next to you, you didn't really know what to do so you just continued to sit there. "Having a bad night?" He asked as you scoffed but nodded.

"Been a pretty bad week to be honest." You sighed and stared at the man's features. He had some light stubble littering the lower half of his face and his hazel brown eyes shone in the moonlight.

"Well love some people have bad centuries so count yourself lucky." He spoke as you frowned at his words, was he joking? "So why is such a young pretty face like yours stained with tears and sat out in the cold at 3am?" He questioned and you looked at him as your lip quivered slightly.

"My boyfriend, he broke up with me." You muttered and looked down. "I don't want to go home just yet, so I ended up here." You spoke and laughed lightly at how stupid it must seem.

"Was he terrible at being a boyfriend or just a downright idiot?" The man questioned as you frowned, in his mind his plan was already failing. He didn't believe that he could kill such a vulnerable girl, now he was regretting even laying eyes on you because you were too good. There didn't seem to be anything that he could fault, not one reason that deemed you eligible to be drained.

"What do you mean?" You asked with a frown.

"Well anybody who would leave you is obviously an idiot, why would they leave you?" He questioned as if it was the most outrageous thing in the world. It caused you to blush slightly as you felt one of his hands touch your cheek, wiping away the remnants of your tears. 

"He's moving country, says that it would be too hard to maintain a long distance relationship." You sighed as the guy nodded.

"Well I think he's just using it as an excuse." The guy waved it off as you frowned.

"An excuse for what?" You questioned in confusion.

"It's simple: he realised that he isn't nearly as good enough for you and so he left before he could become an even greater disappointment to you then he already is." His words made you laugh slightly, the bluntness and harsh reality that maybe he was right. Even if he wasn't, it still made you feel slightly better about yourself.

"Thanks." You smiled lightly at him as he nodded. "I'm Makenna." You added.

"Klaus." He spoke and you sighed when you looked down at your watch. It was nearing 4am and you knew that your parents shift ended soon.

"Well it was nice to meet you Klaus." You smiled at him and rose from the bench as he did too. "My parents are finishing their night shift so I have to get going, you know to explain the whole situation to them." You explained and he nodded in agreement.

"Well good luck." Klaus smiled at you. "And do remember that he wasn't worth your time." He added before turning to leave.

"I will." You laughed slightly. "Goodbye Klaus." You added and also turned to walk the other way, Klaus' words playing over in your head and making you feel slightly better about everything that had happened.
