"what'll we do if he's not ok?" Asked Evie "what if he dies Jac. My mum's dead I can't lose him as well"
"Hey come on" she put her arm round Evie's shoulder " he'll be fine" she said. Trying to convince herself at the same time. She also wondered what she would do if he wasn't ok, if he died.
She realised that Evie was crying softly and her own eyes were full of tears that she was trying to hold back
"I'm glad you're here Jac"
"And I'm glad you're here too" she meant it. This family had definitely joined their Dad in the melting the ice queen challenge
Connie came in. Both looked at her anxiously
"The good news is there are no issues with his neck. His ankle is definitely broken. Deep bruising to his shoulder. He still not fully with it. No obvious bleed on his brain but he has quite severe concussion. He's also a little drowsy from the pain killers, we'll be moving him to a ward soon but you're welcome to come and see him" Connie smiled
They followed Connie to resus and drew the curtains round Fletch's bed to afford them privacy. He appeared to be sleeping
Evie took a sharp intake of breath and put her hand to her mouth a choked sob escaped. Jac put her arm round her again
" it looks worse than it is" she said confidently , feeling anything but
Fletch had two black eyes and a cut across his nose. Abrasions across the rest of his face from the airbag
His right foot was in plaster and his right shoulder was in a sling. Jac felt an overwhelming sense of relief. He was battered and bruised but he was going to be ok
Evie and Jac sat next to each other on his left side. Jac took his hand. Fletch's eyes fluttered a little
" Hey you" She said softly. He squeezed her hand
"Evie's here too" he managed a smile but winced due to the cuts on his face.
" I think you're mum's on the way in. They'll be moving you to a ward soon and then you can get some proper rest. By the way Happy NewYear"
