His Super Soldier // Bucky Barnes

Chapter 9

General Phillips walked closer to the men.

"General Patton has said that wars are fought with weapons and won by men," General Phillips replied.

Maddy then noticed him turn and look at Steve, and then turn around to scowl Dr. Erskine....she frowned.

"We're going  to win this war because we have the best men.... and Ms. Rogers here, and with that being said you all are going to get better... much better," General Phillips said.

"You all are going to be running through an obstacle course," Peggy replied.

"Now move!" Maddy yelled.

The men turned to the side... and started running in a line, over towards the obstacle course.

Peggy and Maddy watched as the recruits ran through the obstacle course... Maddy noticed that Steve was struggling.

She watched as they all rushed towards the cargo net... Steve was climbing up but his foot got caught, Hodge climbed over him... stepping on his face.

Maddy walked over to Dr. Erskine... she noticed that he was watching Steve.

"I hope it works on him," Maddy sighed.

"It worked on you... what's to say it will work on him?" Erskine shrugged.

She nodded... he was right, if it worked on her... it could work on him.

"Our goal is to create the finest army in history.... but every army starts with one man," General Phillips frowned.

Maddy walks over to Peggy, who kept checking her stop watch...

They both watched as the recruits made there way to a barbed wire net... crawling through the mud.

"By the end of the week, we're going to choose that one man," General Phillips smiled.

Maddy watched Steve closely... she turned to look at who was ahead of him, and frowned.

Hodge looked over his shoulder and smirked.. he quickly kicked out a support, and barbed wire fell on Steve.... slowing him down even more.

Maddy growled under her breath.

"He's going to be the second of a new breed of super soldiers... Ms. Rogers and him will personally escort Adolf Hitler to the gates of hell. And with their help, it's going to be a quick end to this damn war," General Phillips said.

Maddy and Peggy pace as the recruits start doing calisthenics...

"I guess I just don't understand the European sense of humor, Doctor," General Phillips said.

Maddy turns to look at both the General and Doctor... she walked over to them.

"You aren't thinking about picking the other Rogers are you?" General Phillips frowned.

"What's wrong with the other Rogers?" Maddy replied.

The Doctor put his hand up towards Maddy... she stepped back.

"I am more than just thinking about it, he is the clear choice," Erskine said.

"When you invited a ninety pound asthmatic onto my Army base, I let it slide because I assumed he'd be useful to you... like a gerbil. I never actually thought you'd pick him," General Phillips sighed.

Maddy noticed General Phillips walking towards an open truck... a crate of grenades was opened.

Maddy's heart began to pound...

"You put a needle in that guy's arm, it's gonna come out the other side," General Phillips frowned.

They all three turned to look at Steve.... they watched as he struggled to do his pushups.

"Look at him! He's going to make me cry," General Phillips sighed.

"I am searching for qualities beyond the physical," Erskine said rolling his eyes.

"Do you know how long it took to set up this project? You already wasted some of the serum of this women.... you know how much groveling I had to do in front of Senator Brandt's committee," General Phillips snarled.

"I'm well aware of your efforts... and I didn't pick Ms. Rogers, Stark did," Erskine said.

General Phillips pointed toward Hodge and smiled.

"Hodge passed every test we gave him. He's big, he's fast, and he takes orders... in shorter words he is a true soldier," General Phillips said.

"Yeah well Hodge is a bully," Maddy frowned.

General Phillips looks from Maddy then Erskine... he then reaches his hand into the crate.

"You don't win Wars with niceness, Doctor...." General Phillips paused.

" You win them with guts," General Phillips smirked.

He quickly pulls the pin out of the grenade and throws it.

"GRENADE!" General Phillips yelled.

Maddy watched as the grenade lands in front the recruits... she quickly rushes over towards it, but Steve beat her to it.

"EVERYBODY GET DOWN!" Steve yelled.

Maddy's heart started to pound against her ribs... this was how she was going to lose her brother, she thought.

After many moments.... everyone started to stand up, completely confused.

Maddy sighed in such relief.

She turned towards General Phillips who just glares... she smiled at him.
