Chapter 63

Darkness was all Maddy could see as she swung open her apartment door, slowly walking inside. She roughly threw her bag on the ground, and slid off her shoes.... she stopped dead in her tracks when she heard sudden moment happening in the living room.

Maddy quickly grabbed her hand gun that was tucked in her pants.... she lifted up the gun and pointed it out, slowly walking into the living room.

"Who's there?" Maddy called out.

She turned the corner and pulled the trigger.

"MADDY ITS ME!!" A familiar voice said.

Maddy looked closely and noticed the familiar red, white and blue shield that stood before her.

"DAMN IT STEVE I COULDVE KILLED YOU!" Maddy yelled, dropping the gun to her side.

"Luckily you didn't," Steve laughed.

"Why did you break into my apartment? You could've called, like a normal human," Maddy replied.

"Maddy.... we aren't normal, and I wanted to check in on my baby sister," Steve smiled.

"You could've called Steven," Maddy frowned, walking over to her couch and sitting down.

"Now where's the fun in that," Steve said, sitting down beside her.

"I haven't heard from you in over a year.... and now you decide to just show up, what's wrong?" Maddy asked.

"I've missed you kiddo.... I didn't like how we left things, you deserve to do any mission... I shouldn't have gotten mad, I was just worried... worried for your safety," Steve sighed.

"I didn't like how we left things either.... but you can't be controlling, we are in a different time period.... women have more rights now," Maddy said.

"I know.... I just don't know what I'd do if I lost you," Steve weakly smiled.

"Nothing is gonna happen to me," Maddy smiled, playfully punching Steve in the shoulder.

"I hope not," Steve laughed.

"As Bucky use to say I am with you till the end of the line Steven," Maddy replied, her heart dropped when his name fell from her lips.... it had been a year since she's thought of him, mentioned him.

"Y-You said his name..... without crying," Steve said.

"It's time to move on.... I can't just stop living because he's gone, he wouldn't want that," Maddy shrugged, slowly standing up and walking to the kitchen.

"I agree! Also don't tell Natasha that... she may set you up with someone," Steve laughed.

"Oh believe me.... that will never happen, would you like some coffee? Tea? Beer?" Maddy asked.

"Beer please!" Steve said.

As Maddy reached for the fridge door, something flew past her face.... She stumbled back and frowned.

Maddy quickly rushed over to her kitchen table, placed her hand under the table and grabbed another gun.....

Steve stood up, shield in hand....

"What was that?" Steve asked.

"My mission," Maddy growled, quickly jumping out the window.

"DO YOU NEED HELP?" Steve called out.

"NO! But call Natasha, she'll know what to do," Maddy yelled back.

Maddy looked down at her feet and noticed she wasn't wearing any shoes..... she quickly looked up and spotted the Winter soldier perched up on a building.... staring down at her.

Maddy lifted her gun up at him.... and started shooting.

"COME DOWN HERE AND FIGHT LIKE A MAN!" Maddy yelled.

The Winter soldier jumped down from the building.... and was now walking up to her.

"Okay Maddy remember your training," Maddy mumbled... getting ready to fight.

They stood in front of one another, staring each other down.... once again.
