Chapter 49

Steve and Maddy slide open a heavy iron door and stealthily walk in, they look around and noticed how huge the warehouse actually is.

Steve looks up seeing another level, he leaps up high and holds onto the catwalk railing, he throws his body over.... quickly standing to his feet, he leans over the railing offering his hand to Maddy.

Maddy frowned and shook her head..... she jumps up and holds onto the railing, throwing her body onto the catwalk.

"You know I was offering to help," Steve said.

"I don't need help," Maddy shrugged.

"You say that now, but when the time comes you'll be begging for my help," Steve replied.

"Whatever you say, Steven," Maddy smirked.

Steve sighed and turned on his feet and started to walk away, Maddy soon followed behind.

They looked around, both decided to spilt up.

Maddy turned a corner.... and stopped when she saw huge black letters that spelled out HYDRA on a grey container.... anger filled Maddy, but so did utter sadness.

"Steve! I found something!" Maddy whispered yelled.

Steve came walking around the corner.... and stopped dead in his tracks, he frowned.

They both slowly walked up to it, they stood over the container.... both debating whether or not to open it.

Steve sighed.... suddenly taking the first step, he opened the container.... his eyes widened.

"What'd you find?" Maddy asked placing a hand on his shoulder.

Steve turns around.... in his hand was a Hydra assault rifle.

"Is SHIELD apart of Hydra?" Steve asked... closer looking at the rifle.

"Maybe they have all this stuff, because it has to deal with the Tesseract," Maddy shrugged.

"We need to find Fury!" Steve said, quickly walking away.

"Oh okay.... yeah," Maddy mumbled.

Maddy watched as Steve marched into the lab, she quickly picked up her feet..... and entered the lab.

"Phase 2 is shield using the cube to make weapons!" Steve blurted out.

Maddy sighed and looked over at Tony.

"Sorry, the computer was a little slow," Maddy said.

"Rogers, we gathered everything related to the Tesseract.....this does not mean that we're..." Fury replied looking from both Maddy and Steve but was suddenly cut off.

"I'm sorry, Nick," Tony said, moving the computer screen towards Fury..... showing the plans of the weapons.

"What were you lying?" Tony asked.

"I was wrong, Director! The world hasn't changed one bit," Steve snapped.

Maddy suddenly turned her head.... hearing more footsteps entering the room, her face lit up when she noticed it was Natasha.... with Thor right behind her.

"Did you know about this?" Banner asked... staring down Natasha.

"You wanna think about removing yourself from this environment, Doctor?" Natasha questioned.

"I was in Calcutta, I was pretty well removed," Banner said.

Maddy noticed how he was struggling to keep himself calm.... she slowly started to back away from everyone.

"Loki's manipulating you," Natasha stated.

"And you've been doing what exactly?" Banner asked.

"You didn't come here because I bat my eyelashes at you," Natasha said.

"Yes! And I'm not leaving because suddenly you get a little twitchy.... I'd like to know why SHIELD is using the Tesseract to build weapons of mass destruction," Banner replied.

"Because of him!" Fury said pointing towards Thor.

"Me?" Thor questioned.

"What does Thor have to do with any of this?" Maddy spoke up.

"Last year earth had a visitor from another planet who had a grudge match that leveled a small town..... we learned that not only are we not alone, but we are hopelessly, hilariously, outgunned," Fury said.

"My people want nothing but peace with your planet," Thor replied.

"But you're not the only people out there, are you? And, you're not the only threat... the world's filling up with people who can't be matched, they can't be controlled," Fury sighed.

"Like you controlled the cube?" Maddy questioned taking a step forward.

"You're work with the Tesseract is what drew Loki to it, and his allies. It is the signal to all the realms that the earth is ready for a higher form of war," Thor said.

"I don't understand.... a higher form?" Maddy asked.

"You forced our hand.... we had to come up with something," Fury frowned.

"Nuclear deterrent. Cause that always calms everything right down," Tony replied rolling his eyes.

"Remind me again how you made your fortune, Stark?" Fury asked.

"Daddy's money," Maddy mumbled.

Suddenly everyone started to argue.... Maddy slowly backed up, and stood in the corner of the room.... her eyes moving across the room, cautiously watching everyone, mostly Banner.
