"Love is friendship that has caught on fire" - Ann Landers
I sat in our car, the owners of the moving trucks loading all the boxes into the trunk, Boris had told me to stay in the car while he helped them.
I peered out of the big window in front of me, looking at the clouds. Not wanting too look back at my home, or look back at the silhouette of the city that made itself clear behind me.
I was too sad.
I had spent most of my life here as I mentioned and I didn't think moving would be this mentally painful... I heard the slam of the car door beside me and Boris's tall appearance in the drivers seat. "Boris let me drive this time." I said with a raised brow. He opened his mouth to speak but closed it immediately. "You sure?" He asked me, unsure about my choice. "Yes I'm sure." I responded almost immediately, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Plus you drove me everywhere when I was deaf." I added on. He nodded. We opened our doors and switched places.
I relaxed in the drivers seat. Sighing and taking a grip on the wheel. "Ready?" I said, earning a quick "yes" from him. I started to drive slowly behind the trucks as I pulled out of our driveway for the last time.
Boris looked back at our home, though I refused. Even if it was through the side mirror I still was too sad. 'Just drive' was all I could think. So that's what I did.
Our first hour on the road was normal, listening to murder podcasts and Boris yelling out what he thought and getting the answer wrong and getting mad.
I stayed silent though. Not a word came from my mouth. I told Boris that I was just wanting to listen. Though he accepted he was still suspicious.
Two hours in:
"Theo are you okay?" He finally asked me. I stayed silent. "Theo?" He asked again. I sighed. "Just go to sleep Boris." I responded, keeping my eyes on the road. Though he didn't. He just sat there. "Homesick huh?" He responded after a long pause. I gave up my hesitation to speak and nodded. "Yeah that's it" I replied. He licked his lips. "Talk to me Theo. Tell me about it." Boris said. I sighed. Pressing my lips together. "I don't know... it's just I've spent my whole life there." I finally got out. He smiled at my response and put a hand on my shoulder. "I know how you feel. Thank you for talking about it" He added. I smiled and nodded.
He kissed my shoulder. Trying not to disturb my driving. "Now go to sleep." I said with a laugh. He scoffed playfully and turned around pulling the blanket that fell on the floor over him.
I had a blanket that covered my shoulders, Boris had put it there for comfort which really warms my heart.
Within a few minutes I could hear his soft easy breaths. Which made me relax and have a good focus on the road, and in a better state of mind. I was relaxed and easy going which made everything smoother and better.
Three hours in:
Two hours left. Boris slept for a good 45 minutes while I listened to a podcast that had popped up in the recommendations. Boris woke up after 10 minutes of his nap mad because he didn't sleep the whole car ride then ended up passing out for another 35 minutes.
I would laugh to myself whenever he woke up I'n a bad mood because he acts like he's been on laughing gas or something. Which gets annoying but can be fun to mess around with sometime.
We had woken up early this morning to get ready too drive. Boris practically had to drag me out of bed to do so and I was not happy nor ready too be shoved in a car for five hours. I guess he wasn't either so I let him be in the shotgun this time and let him sleep it off, which he obviously did.
I was tired but I knew that I didn't want to make my husband drive, mainly because he was half asleep and he looked adorable when he slept. Which was enough to make me smile and continue driving.
Four hours in:
Boris was fully conscious and active. Talking to me about whatever came to his mind. But was very humorous and respected me when the conversation ended or started on a darker side. But mainly kept the conversations light hearted and funny.
