The SH and I had a big discussion about the Pop Tarts and he said, at least I never asked my mother if she and daddy had ever had hot monkey love.
OMG, LOL, I swear it wasn't exactly like that. I did ask her if she and daddy loved hot monkeys, but I was five, for goodness sake!
Mama taught us all to read when we were very, very young. When I was five, someone had left a very questionable paper back book laying in the living room. I picked it up and was reading it.
When I didn't understand something, mama was the go to person in our house. So, I went to mama.
I told her I was reading a new book, and she said she was glad, she liked for me to read books.
Then she asked if I wanted to read to her while she folded clothes. So I went and got my book, and after about two or three paragraphs, she jerks it out of my hand, asking where I got it.I showed her where I got it, and she asked me if I wanted to go bake cookies. So off we went.
Cookie baking is what we did when mama didn't want to deal with nosy children and I knew that, so
I was trying to figure out how I would go about finding out why that book got mama so excited before
Wanda and Milton got home from school so I would have something to tell them about MY exciting day.As we were stirring and gettin ready to bake cookies, I ask mama, do you and daddy like hot monkeys like the lady in the book did?
My poor, sweet, preaacher's wife mama, turned red, kind of choked, giggled a little and said, let's make some frosting to go on these cookies and you can eat what we don't use.
Hot monkeys went out the window, I had a REAL story to tell Wanda and Milton when they got home from school.
As we were finishing up, mama says, Tommie Lee, asking questions about any more hot monkeys won't get you more cookie baking and frosting, do you understand.
My mama raised a fairly smar kid, the only answer to that question was yes ma'am.
