Part 109

Gabriel's POV

The waltz had entertained me for about five minutes. I had been so bored and I wasn't supposed to sit here all night with my head down, texting Sang either. According to Dr Roberts, all nine of us sitting around the table, with our heads down and texting was causing concern for a few of the other members. Like I gave a fuck! Well, I didn't, until Mr B pointed out that people might inquire who had us so chained to our phones. He had a point. But something else had caught my eye and the boredom was pushed to the side for a bit.

It's not like we were the life and soul of the Academy Ball anyway. They were very stiff necked affairs; full of people who, at any other time of the year, didn't really get involved with each other unless they were needed for various jobs. I noticed they all seemed to stick together in groups. The charity workers were all together, the medical clan were all together, except Dr Green who was in no mans land with us. The Lawyers sat with the accountants and then there were the groups like ours, that had no set academic job. Axel and his group had the next table over and then there was Killer Kath's group and another mixed group of four dogs and one bird who Mr B knew, but I didn't. They were much older though and seemed to stick together. And it was this group that had caught my eye. There was something about them. I wasn't sure what it was, but now Mr B had dragged my head out of my phone, I had spent the best part of ten minutes watching them.

I saw Killer Kathy come over and I was momentarily distracted from the other group. I watched as she swayed over in a full length skin tight red dress that looked good on her. She was a very good looking woman, but not a patch on my Trouble, who was sexy without even realising it. But Kathy was still easy on the eyes; but her eyes were only on the Doc who had not seen her come up behind him. She laid a hand on his shoulder, her nails were long and painted the same shade as her dress. She was like the scarlet woman and she had the Doc in her sights. He jumped slightly and turned to face her, I watched her as she smiled at him asking if he wanted to dance, but it was fucking obvious to anyone that wasn't the only thing she was asking for from him.

He smiled gently at her and told her that he just didn't feel like dancing tonight. I had seen the slight change in her eyes, one eyebrow raising and it was apparent that she hadn't expected him to turn her down. He had stood up then and turning slightly away from the table, he had said something to her that I couldn't hear. She had laughed, shook her head in resignation, leant forward and kissed his cheek. She said something and then she was turning and walking towards some other people I didn't recognise.

The Doc sat back down and I leant forwards slightly when Mr B looked at him saying something, but again it was said so quietly I couldn't hear it over the music and laughter. I sat back, sighed and went back to my group watching. I blinked. It hit me like a ton of bricks. The woman had just come back to the table with one of the men, but as she sat down, it was how the other men treated her that made it click. They were all in love with her. I sat forward, propping my chin on my hand and watched them closely. One of them had slid his hand onto her knee, while the other one was holding her hand. I couldn't keep quiet any more.

"Hey, Mr B," I hissed and getting up I scooted my way around the table and got Nathan to budge up so I could sit on his seat with him.

"What is it, Mr Coleman?" M B asked in surprise.

"The team behind us, is that the team you told us about when we first all came out over... well, y'know."

"Yes it is," he said. "I can't introduce you. They know we have a bird, but that's all they know."

"Huh," I nodded, understanding that.

Luke came over with Victor looking very innocent, which was something to question straight away, but North beat me to it.
