A/N: Thanks to Jennifer for making this readable. :D Any remaining mistakes are all mine. :)
Nothing really drastic happens here, it's a kind of filler chapter, but needs to be popped in for later. That made no sense.
Thank you for reading, voting, commenting. I love it when you do, it gives me encouragement to continue and not add it to my UFO's. (unfinished objects). :D
North's POV
I was in my room in the house tonight. The trailer was too far. I had wanted both Luke and Sang to go back with the Doc and I would have gone with them, but Uncle was determined to have Luke close. I understood it, but it meant I couldn't be with both of them.
If I closed my eyes I could still see the mangled lump of steel that had been my Jeep. We had gone through that way to get to Trident so it had been impossible to miss the scene of the accident. The Jeep was a mangled wreck; the back had been completely removed, the front had been out of view. I had slowed long enough to make sure that they weren't still trapped inside and then I had carried on. Uncle had made a noise behind me when he had seen the Jeep. I didn't know how anyone had survived and it had made me speed up a bit; anxious to make sure that my brother and my girlfriend were still alive. The officer had said that they were getting medical attention at Trident, but I wouldn't be happy until I could see them for myself.
I covered my face with my hand and drew in a deep breath. I felt restless, edgy. We had come so close to losing them both, had come close to nearly losing Sang twice now. It was just one thing after another and I was completely and utterly unable to do anything about it.
I got up, stuffed my feet into my boots and crossed to Luke's bedroom. His door was open and I went in quietly; if he was asleep I didn't want to disturb him. He was flat on his back, his arm resting on his stomach, the sling still in place. He was asleep; his eyes moving rapidly under his eyelids told me he was dreaming. I crossed to look down at him.
"North."
A whisper made me turn to see Uncle standing in the doorway. He indicated with his hand for me to come over to him. He caught my upper arm when I got close enough and drew me out of the room, pushing the door to.
"He's asleep," I said as we stopped in the hallway.
"I just had the PD on the phone, they need a statement from him and Sang. They're sending officers around in the morning."
"Tomorrow? Sunday?" I asked him and he nodded.
"The driver of the truck died this afternoon. Head injuries." I huffed out my breath at his words, but he held up a hand to silence me. "No one else was at fault. Insurance companies will sort out everything else, but the Police just need to get their version of events."
"Ok, I'll let Mr B know," I said, running a hand along my jaw, it vaguely crossed my mind that I needed a shave.
"Is Sang at her home?" he asked.
I nodded, trying to dredge up some sympathy for the driver who had killed himself by running a red light. I failed; I would feel sorry for his family, but he had caused a fatal accident which very nearly took my whole world away. Anger still boiled under the surface at his careless actions.
"Is Sean with her?" Uncle's voice cut into my thoughts and I frowned down at him.
"What?"
"Is Sean with Sang?"
"Yes, why? Do we need him to look at Luke again?" I asked, half turning back to the door. Did he know something about Luke that I hadn't been told?
