Part 126

Sang's POV

I stepped through the front door of the house. Marie was already home, her bag dropped at the foot of the stairs and her coat over the newel post. Mr Blackbourne move forwards, picked up her coat and hung it on the coat stand, but he let her bag stay on the floor.

"This way," he called over his shoulder, already heading towards the family room. Dr Green helped me take my coat off and then he was hanging it on the stand. I made to move forwards but he caught my upper arm and tugged me to a stop in front of him.

"I know what I saw..." he stopped. "I just need to hear it from you... he didn't try and touch you anywhere else, did he?"

"No," I shook my head firmly and he blew out his breath, nodding his head.

"Ok, come on then." He caught my hand and we went into the family room. He shut the door behind him. I turned to where Mr Blackbourne was stood in front of the window, his hands on his hips, suit jacket open.

"I made a mistake," he said, I saw a muscle working in his jawline.

"We both did," Dr Green said and undoing his tie, he slumped down onto the sofa and kicked his shoes off.

"What?" I asked with a frown, I had no idea what they were referring to.

"I put you in an impossible situation," Mr Blackbourne turned and I saw regret in his eyes, regret and self recrimination. "You gave him what I asked you to and he got too damn close, again!"

"He was trying to unbalance me," I said. "He plays hot and cold. None of this is either of your faults. He's correct in that he's using me, but I think regardless of what you got me to say or do in there, he'd still use me."

"Maybe, but the fact remains that he got too close last time and I allowed it to happen again."

"I don't think he was going to do anything past what he did. He's trying to make me think of him as some great principal who only wants what's best for this school. He wants to make you into the enemy and him the redeemer. He's alternating between threatening and entreating me. I think it worked like you wanted it too; he panicked, he started to sweat, his eyes changed too. When I told him what you had said, they sharpened somehow, he's worried, but he tried his best to hide it."

"Maybe, maybe." Mr Blackbourne ran his hand through his hair and sank down onto the sofa. "Fact remains that I never want to put you in that position again."

"You may not have a choice," I said quietly. "He wants me to carry on listening to you. I can't back away from you now, frankly, I don't want too. But that's the only way he'd leave me alone."

"She's right," Dr Green sighed unhappily.

"I know she is," Mr Blackbourne barked. "And I do not like it!" He got to his feet and started to pace behind the sofa.

The door opened and Marie came in, she halted when she saw them and me in there. She sneered at them and then looked at me.

"I want to talk to you," she snapped at me, still glaring at them.

I got up and went across to the door. She went out and I followed her.

"What now?" I heard Dr Green snort as I pulled the door, not quite shutting it the door.

"What's up?"

"How long are they staying?" she demanded.

"The others are bringing back take out, so for dinner, why?"

"David is coming over," she snapped.

"It's a school night," I said stupidly.

"And that stops you with your little hareem?" she sneered and I shrugged, refusing to bite.
