Spencer's POV
(Italics are in Greek)
I hadn't heard from Carol yet but I wasn't letting that get to me. I was dressed for the day but hadn't gotten around to doing much so far. Just enjoying another beautiful day in Greece.
It was nearing lunchtime and I was about to take a ride on my bike over to Mama's; this amazing restaurant I found my second day here. I had somehow charmed the elder lady that ran the place into agreeing to teach me how to cook if I helped out during their lunch hours. For some reason she felt I was worth the time. I quickly fell under her warmth though as she was an absolute sweetheart. And man did she know how to cook. It was like having Muhammad Ali teach you how to box. You can't say no.
And let me tell you, it has been paying off. She's taken me under her wing and I've taken off. Not trying to toot my own horn, but I've really grown as a cook. Ugh, leave me alone, it makes me happy.
The best part is that Carol knows that I don't cook. And I know you're thinking 'I thought you guys were causal.' We were. Are? But that's doesn't mean I don't treat them like royalty while they're with me. Or at least attempt to.
At least in the terms of cooking, I've tried. It just usually failed miserably. I was always burning or adding the wrong ingredients or something. So this should definitely impress her. In fact I caved and sent her another text (I know, I double texted. Again, leave me alone.)
Just a quick one to tell her if she could make it early I'd make her dinner. Little does she know. But again, still no response. I tried telling myself she was probably busy with the mission but I know I was the mission and I'm back so..
Stopping in my tracks, I shook my head hoping to rid myself of these thoughts. It certainly wasn't going to help anything if I went down that path. Instead I got to my garage where my Honda Shadow RS is just waiting for me. I love this bike, closest thing I have to a child. If you know, you know.
Anyway, I hop on my bike putting my focus on driving to the restaurant and the delicious food I'll be making. And eating.
I pull up out back so I can enter right into the kitchen. I park, take off my helmet then head inside.
Mama Athena, I'm here.
About time, dear. Grab an apron and get your ass back here.
She's to the point. I like it. We get along well. We immediately get busy making orders as she instructs me what to do and occasionally checks on me. At first she pretty much had to hold my hand through everything. Now I think I can hold my own.
You know, you could take this place over one day if you keep up like this. You're getting better everyday.
I couldn't help but feel proud. I had her approval and praise. Considering I didn't really have any parents growing up, having a grandma - like figure in my life gave me a sense of happiness I didn't know I needed. This is what I had been missing out on.
Just another thing I'm going to have to leave behind. I'll make sure she's taken care of though. She has no idea how much I'd like to take over this place and to have it be my home. I know that's a far off dream though. She kept talking, not knowing my thoughts.
You could do wonderful things with this place. And you have such a natural talent for this. Unlike my granddaughter of course. She wouldn't know a pairing knife from a spoon if they were labeled.
